boyst
After three preseason games and several weeks of training camp - who's rising, who's falling, who's not getting it done, who's missing and who is pulling away? For bonus points, what is it you're seeing with the player to support your viewpoint. Who's stock is rising? Who's stock is falling? Who has your APB? Who has your BOLO? Rising: TJ Graham: Sure, he's unpolished, sure he is not a starting WR but he was targeted last night and if Hayward would not have tipped that pass it'd have been another completion. Robert Woods: He's just solid. Lets hope this little bit of ego he may have can be kept in check. Falling: Chris Hogan: Started out strong but with Robert Woods getting his reps back he has become an afterthought. APB: Alan Branch: where are you? WR route running: where are you guys? Someone needs to be able to tell EJ Manuel, because he can't find you. BOLO: Robey: I believe Schwartz might not realize he has a great ball hawk in Robey and it might not be sooner than it could later but I see him making an impact this year. Anthony Dixon: He just plays hungry. He reminds me of Fred Jackson. Dixon's feet do not stop. and I know this guy is a Steeler and I know I wasn't sold on him at first, but #50 for the Steelers is going to light it up like our own #50 did last year. Shazier is going to be a star. Alonso and Shazier are the baby faces of LB in the AFC Edited August 17, 2014 by jboyst62
4merper4mer
What is BOLO? I know it is a cowboy tie but I don't see how that relates to Robey, Dixon or Shazier.

Big C
Rising: Cohen & Charles - Especially the former, these guys were beasts last night. Randell Johnson - Took some bad angles in the first game and I've seen improvement since. Physical presence, was all over the field. Falling: Urbik - Quietly had a solid 2013 season and all of a sudden looks absolutely terrible. Hopkins - Thought he was a longshot to make the team as a specialist, Carpenter kicked some out of the endzone today, he's good as gone. APB: Branch BOLO: Robey is an easy choice, but I'll say Corey Graham. The TD wasn't really his fault and he snuffed out some screen passes very nicely before and after that play. KollegeStudnet
Falling - Hackett There should be some accountability on his part. Three games, 10 trips and zero tds Edited August 17, 2014 by KollegeStudnet
The Jokeman
Alan Branch has been Mr. Invisible and this with him playing against scrubs. I don't see him making the final 53. Rising? Randall Johnson. He seems to be around the ball a lot and he might make the final roster depending how many LBs we keep. If it's 7 he should be there but if it's 6 I hope we re-sign him for the PS. TJ Graham has shown to be a better WR/ contributor as a return man on ST so he might end up beating out Marcus Easley for that 6th WR spot. Yet it might because Easley's blocked punt is easily forgotten since it was 2 preseason games ago. Edited August 17, 2014 by The Jokeman

It is pretty interesting that we just gave this guy an extension and let Moats and Carrington walk. Carrington is 2nd team in StL and done nothing this preseason, fwiw. Carrington is 2nd team in StL and done nothing this preseason, fwiw. It's because Branch started 13 games last year and of course was re-signed before we lost Pettine too. All I know is I think we're still lacking a starting DE opposite Mario. As to me am not sold on Lawson/Hughes but then again it's hard to cry about the defense as it's only given up 18.00 per game through three preseasons games which to me very good and like that we haven't been gashed against the run. Yet a little worry about the secondary play but maybe when McKelvin returns it will get better.

Standing Lawson up on the strong side sliding Dareus to a hybrid DT/DE role on the strong side, too... I have a few ideas to mask the issue. dayman
Falling: Urbik - see above EJ - see the games CJ - Looks like last year...not necessarily that CJ is bad but it is just clear that Fred is still better (somehow). Yet to break one and looks below average when there isn't huge holes. Great catching the ball in the flat and getting 10 out of what most players would get 3 out of though. We need to use him as full time slasher IMO he should catch more than half his touches. Gilmore - He's still the best guy we have but he's nothing to write home about--at least not to date. He's just a guy who looks like he's going to get absolutely burned periodically for his entire career. Still mostly good..but he plays it close to the vest and has continued to give up big plays this preseason (last week, 2 this week). Thad Lewis - IMO he's better the Tuel, and equal to EJ. Not saying much, but it is a rise for him. All three are terrible. Searcy - Not impressed. IMO the Antonio Brown TD last week was equally on him as it was the guys underneath. Bad angle and absolutely roasted. That said, Brown is fantastic. Rising TJ - see above. Still might not make the team though. Looked good returning last night, imo. One cut then north-south w/ the speed...he's capable of returning punts all year if we keep him. Hogan - I saw someone knock him as falling above, b/c Woods is getting his full reps now. He's not going to start, but IMO he's def. on track to make the team. I thought for sure he would be cut this year. Still may be cut, but in true Hogan style he's making it tough. Easley - Depends on special teams to make the team, and he blocked a punt. Good job Easley. **Note: I have not seen the Carolina game yet, or watched any replays (where I usually catch defensive stuff).** Edited August 17, 2014 by MoreOffense

Special K
Falling - Hackett There should be some accountability on his part. Three games, 10 trips and zero tds I think Hackett falls more in the APB category...where's the creativity?? I know preseason calls tend to be vanilla, but his play calling was suspect last year, and certainly hasn't improved so far. Also, I wish EJ would remember to put his mouthpiece in on running plays...he leaves it in his face mask on running plays, and puts it in his mouth on passing plays. If I notice this, I'm sure opposing D's do as well. Shouldn't the OC notice this, and correct it?? Falling - Hackett There should be some accountability on his part. boyst
You are one. tough. sell. No, he is not. Hughes can't stop the run, we had three good players for the run last year. Two of them are gone. Byrd and Alonso. Mario Williams is the only one left. We did add Brandon Spikes, though. So a team that was horrible against the run netted 1 lost player against the run. However, everybody can't do everything well. You have to have some specialists. You absolutely have to account for Jerry Hughes in passing situations. He is an impact player in an impact position in today's passing game. You can't all-of-a-sudden say he's not as effective because of the change in the roster around him. That's not his fault. Jerry Hughes proved last year that he can play big time ball.

I love Kiko but he was a liability in the run last year and part of the reason we got run on. He was swallowed up quite frequently when we played teams with decent lineman. Luxy312
Rising - Seantrel Henderson. They guy looks like Kouandjio SHOULD look. He could be our day 1 starter at RT. Falling - Hackett. Just not finding a way to call plays to get the ball from the red zone to the end zone. 11 tries and zero success so far. Just doesn't seem to know how to play to the strengths of the team. APB - Definitely Branch. He's gradually blowing any chance of a career and it's all on him. BOLO - Maybe Stefan Charles, but it's a little early to tell. Showed signs, but it was against 2nd and 3rd team.

K D
i don't know what any of these abbreviations mean. i think the WHOLE TEAM's stock is falling after that Pit game. They practiced with them all week, how could they look that bad in the game? I felt good about the defense until Big Ben picked apart our secondary. And the offense looked terrible yet again. I think it's pretty obvious at this point who is and who isn't making the team. The 1st and 2nd string has been pretty steady all preseason, no surprises.
