biggerdaddynj Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) Since there is a consensus on TBD that our QB situation is, well, downright pathetic, I thought it would be safe to list the FA QBs left at this late in the game (it's scary): David Garrard, Jim Kitna, Seneca Wallace, Kevin Kolb, Nick Stephens, Josh Freeman. Looks like this was one failure by Whaley and company. Edited August 17, 2014 by biggerdaddynj
HOUSE Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) Its pretty obvious that a good solid starting QB would not be unsigned at this point of the season. The best route would be to trade for a quarterback that becomes a free agent next season. I for one like Ryan Mallett for a number of reasons Strong and accurate arm and he is a leader in the huddle. He also can read a defense.....I miss that in Buffalo - Edited August 17, 2014 by HOUSE
Proteus Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Whaley is happy with what we have for backups at the QB position.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Whaley is happy with what we have for backups at the QB position. That can't be true after seeing Thad and Tuel this preseason.
Best Player Available Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Is Slim Pickings still available?
Dragonborn10 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Josh Freeman is better than both Tuel and Lewis. But I would wait for a surprise cut and maybe sign a guy after week 1. This avoids a salary guarantee. Tuel can hold a clip board for Chicago. Then sign a veteran.
biggerdaddynj Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 Both Clausen & Quinn are on rosters. Thanks--I thought nfl.com would be reliable!
8-8 Forever? Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Nope. EJ is it this season. You are in the 3rd week of August. Its over. EJ is all you are going to have this year. Period. This ain't fantasy football. He'll be fine. Needs lots and lots of reps that one. And he will get them. The weeklong beatdown in Pittsburgh was exactly what this team needed. Now back to work.

Agreed, but we need a better back up. Whaley needs to quit avoiding a vet signing because it may threaten EJ.
truth on hold Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Better than what we have: Tebow ... winning record, beat steelers in playoffs Vince young ... officially retired but think he'd come out for the right offer Levi brown ... looked good in last game before being run out of town for Chan's Tyler thigpen obsession
voodoo poonani Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 We'll since this thread was started... I thought Mallet looked great against the Eagles. He seems to have a cannon, and is pretty accurate with it.
YoloinOhio Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Pretty sure Ponder will be available. He looks like a cut because doubt they keep him as the 3rd QB.

Ponder could be a good pickup if cut We'll since this thread was started... I thought Mallet looked great against the Eagles. He seems to have a cannon, and is pretty accurate with it. Mallet isn't available and I don't want to trade with pats. Why does his name keep coming up?
voodoo poonani Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Mallet isn't available and I don't want to trade with pats. Why does his name keep coming up? Because the rumor mill (PFT) said he was on the trade block...
Kirby Jackson Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I posted this in a different thread but what about Branch for Pryor, McGloin or even Ponder? Can we use the depth at DT or WR to get a back up QB that is 3rd on someone else's depth chart? Pryor would be my pick (doubt the Pats would send us Mallet unless he isn't good).

mountainwampus Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Someone who doesn't make the cut for either Seahwaks or 49ers would be ideal. Possibly Josh Johnson, Pryor or Tjax (not Gabbert). But they're probably all locks
HOUSE Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 What has he shown in his NFL career to make you believe these things? All of the above can be seen in his very first preseason game. Watch this guy and remember this was his rookie season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7H9hyVHcAM
