PromoTheRobot Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) Personally I'm tired of playing them every year. I know why we did but with Ralph gone do we continue the tradition in his memory or move on? Edited August 16, 2014 by PromoTheRobot
Bob in Mich Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) William Clay Ford, the Lions former owner passed in March 2014 so if that series was based on his connection with Ralph, it will likely pass away too. I wondered how far out they 'book' preseason games. After whatever is booked expires, they will probably end that series, imo. Edited August 16, 2014 by Bob in Mich
mikemac2001 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Part of the reason was the connection But the other connection is an NFC team which we only play once every 4 years it also is a very short trip for both teams so it works out well as a final preseason game
NoSaint Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Does it really matter? Would you be more excited to see random 3rd stringers in different color uniforms?
Robert Paulson Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 who cares? it is typically the useless 4th game against a close opponent- 3 hour drive through canada or quick charter flight would you prefer we fly to the west coast a week before the season starts?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Agreed, who cares? As was pointed out, they are close by, only see them every 4 years. I'd maybe cancel the one year out of four like 2014 when we do play them in the regular season, but even then you see so little scheme wise, it doesn't really matter much even then.
Bob in Mich Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) A close opponent is nice. I agree too that the final preseason game is the worst one. I still think a variety of opponents would be better than the same ones year in and year out. Edited August 16, 2014 by Bob in Mich
Best Player Available Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I love it. Two powerhouse legendary teams. going at it, head to head. Every pre season. For 60 minutes. Showcasing the rewards to their respective fans, of a tough pre season camp. On the live NFL stage. What a tradition. To take it away would be horrible.
chris heff Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Preseason games should be against teams that are the closest, it's practice.
Bob in Mich Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Preseason games should be against teams that are the closest, it's practice. Do teams fly in for those games or take the bus? If they fly in, there are about a dozen teams that are similarly close, give or take a half hour.

Yes but are they AFC teams??? only close NFC teams would be giants/bears we don't want to play teams we could meet in the season in preseason (or usually the way the build it)
Captain Hindsight Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Doesnt every team face the same opponent the 4th preseason game?
mikemac2001 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Doesnt every team face the same opponent the 4th preseason game? I think the philly/new england match up seems to happen every year

What teams are you referring to?
mikemac2001 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Most are NFC/AFC matchups that are close to region to each other http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2014/PRE4
Bob in Mich Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) Doesnt every team face the same opponent the 4th preseason game? I think you are correct, Cap'n. I had never noticed that before. EDIT: I guess not always though as there are some differences year to year now that I have looked closer. http://www.nfl.com/scores/2012/PRE4 http://www.nfl.com/scores/2013/PRE4 http://www.cbssports...preseason/week4 Edited August 16, 2014 by Bob in Mich
