I think guys like that make their entire salary or about 2/3 of their salary when that happens. If they clear waivers they are put on IR which gives them the whole thing, or they have to reach an injury settlement with the team, which is usually around 66% or so, but then they are a FA to sign anywhere they want.

 

But yes, it's a cold hard business.
