Man, never thought of this, but what if they kept Littman?

:w00t::wallbash::lol:

Like overdorf, and like Darcy, and like Russ Brandon, these guys are just good soldiers for the whims of the big guy upstairs. I'm pretty sure that if Ralph wanted to flash crazy money around, that Littman and Overdorf would have followed those orders, too. Like Darcy did with previous owners before he got the open checkbook from El Petulante.

There are 3 official starters on the OL imo. Glenn at LT, Wood at C and Henderson at RT (what a steal in the draft he was). The guard positions are where we are struggling.

I don't think those positions are fixable unless we bring in a new body like "yesterday". I had high hopes for Hairston manning the RT position so Henderson could back him up and maybe learn the LG position to be the trio of Glenn, Henderson and Wood from left to right, but it's not the way it panned out.

Marrone is the supposed OL specialist so I hope he figures out who the best 2 linemen for the Guard positions are soon cuz the season is pretty much around the corner.

Looks like Pears is who he's comfortable with at RG so I guess my vote goes for CW at LG cuz Cyrus is not who I want holding that position at all. Cyrus looks slow and I just don't see the potential in him especially as a Guard.

No he's not. He just used to play that position.

He was also OL coach for the Jets from 2000-2006, and was a pretty darned good one.

hardly a specialist more than any other offensive line coach. Others refer to him as a guru, I don't get it.

I think they just mean that--as a former OLmen and OL coach--that's his primary area of knowledge.

Marrone all but said today that barring injury Pears is going to start the season at RG.

Jon Stinchcomb who was a Pro Bowler credits him. Marrone got the OC job under Sean Payton because of his OL coach career, and had substantial input into the OL and offense.

this I can agree with. My point is that just because we have a former lineman as coach, it doesn't mean our emphasis about the line would be any different than any other team. Obviously , there are teams with great lines out there and the head coach was not a lineman.

Maybe I'm just too grumpy.

I am holding onto hope that Pears will learn to be a decent RG as he was going up against a great player in McCoy his first game. He was not a horrible T so he may do well enough at G. I worry more about LG. Looks like they have to play Williams - why they would pay a proven mediocre player and pin hopes on him is beyond me. I hope Richardson keeps improving and takes over because I don't think Williams can get any better. My next prayer is they all stay healthy. They are never deep enough. Every year they get finally rolling with 5 and one gets hurt and they fall apart after that. One injury and that will be the excuse for the whole year.

I agree with your last sentence yet I understand.

If you worked at a Nissan car dealership for 10 plus years selling cars, I'd expect you to have some knowledge (well not some but a great deal of knowledge) about Nissans.

Oh and maybe the word specialist got to you so I'll take that word back... It's supposed to be his area of expertise since he's played the position and coached the position...

It sounds like 4 of the 5 slots have been filled.

Glenn-?-Wood-Pears-Henderson

It's likely to be Chris Williams or Cyril Richardson at LG, and CW might be injured often.

I mentioned somewhere that C R is chasing dowm C Williams . Dont know when but thats likely the plan at this point.

I think after some reps together this is a worthwhile under taking , and for those considering Tampa game , i do believe thats the first time they lined up together at those positions.

I was hoping for Hairston. underdog pick

but please geebus watch over us

Looks like the OL is pretty much set. Glenn-Williams-Wood-Pears-Henderson start. I see Urbik as the C/G backup and Hairston as the swing tackle. I assume that they're going to keep Kouandjio and Richardson as well. So that's the 9, IMO. It'll be interesting to see who the #3 C would be in the event of injury.

I cant wait to see Glenn vs Clowney and Henderson vs Watt.

The front 7s we face are tough but we did catch a few breaks..

The Lions front 7 is nasty.

The Jets. Patriots are always tough. The Broncos. The Browns.

And we play the Texans Lions Jets and Pats in the first 8 games. Tough. No wonder we knew we had to get bigger and physical up front.

But the Chargers beast NG got twisted like a pretzel yesterday. He might be done.

And for later in the season Raji is out.

So TWO out of 16 games is "catching a break"?

I was being sarcastic. ....I was saying the schedule vs D lines is rough...but wow we might have caught 2 breaks.

And it turns out that guy in San Diego will be ok.

We need Incognito bad....we are going to see heat on EJ up the middle all freaking season.

Remember when losing Levitre the consensus was (correctly IMO) "you can find Guards."

Leave it to this team.

Hopefully Williams back is ok. Hopefully Cyril can get real good quick and replace Pears. Or maybe Pears can hold his own. But if I'm Whaley I'm not screwing around. Incognito must be considered. Or trade for Boone. B)

Hopefully the new right side of the line gels in time... they certainly did not look good against the Bucs. This is a risky move in my opinion. To my eye Henderson and Pears both played well at their previous positions ( LT and RT) and they should have left well enough alone.. ie.. Pears at RT and Urbik at RG with Henderson as the swing tackle. Pro Football Focus has a similar take. https://www.profootb...eseason-week-3/

Erik Pears, RG, -4.2

Breakdown: The return of Cory Glenn (-1.2) saw a re-shuffle on the right side that didn’t go well for either Erik Pears or Seantrel Henderson (-2.4). This was a baptism of fire for Pears who struggled with the destructive pairing of McCoy and McDonald. Both as a run blocker (-2.3) and pass protector (-1.5) Pears struggled, surrendering stops, pressures and a hold in each phase of the game.

Signature Stat: Both Pears and Henderson graded negatively after cumulative positive grades at LT (+2.8 for Henderson) and RT (+1.7 for Pears), respectively, in the first three preseason games.

I also specifically watched Urbik the last few games and thought he looked fine at RG.Amazing to me that Pro Football Focus rated him as one of the best guards in the AFC East last year and now he is a backup? https://www.profootb...-afc-east-team/

Right Guard: Kraig Urbik, BUF

Urbik continues to fly under the radar as one of the league’s solid guards. He ranked 21st overall at the position, including a +4.8 pass block grade that ranked 19th. He also came in eighth in Pass Blocking Efficiency at 97.3.

Looking at PFF stats

Hairston 77 snaps LT #1 rating in league

Henderson 122 snaps LT #19 in league

Pears 119 snaps RT #12 in league

Urbik 111 snaps RG #2 tie in league

McClain 99 snaps LG #41 in league

C. Williams 72 snaps LG #102 in league

Chris Williams signed a four-year, $13.5 million contract . The deal includes $5.5 million in guaranteed money , he is a big ? ,cut by the Bears, 2 years with Rams then not re-signed

Kudos to Henderson... and another verification of Urbik's talents. Urbik must have really done something to piss of Marrone or get on his bad side
