Was EJ Really the Wrong Pick in 2013? A Look at the 2013 First Round

With all the negative talk about EJ as usual, I thought I'd take a look at the 2013 draft and see if EJ was really that bad of a pick all things considered.

Please look at this list of picks and consider what they accomplished last year. Did we really make the wrong pick?

1 1 Kansas City Chiefs Eric Fisher OT Central Michigan MAC [9] 1 2 Jacksonville Jaguars Luke Joeckel OT Texas A&M SEC 1 3 Miami Dolphins Dion Jordan DE Oregon Pac-12 from Oakland [R1 - 1] 1 4 Philadelphia Eagles Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma Big 12 1 5 Detroit Lions Ezekiel Ansah DE BYU Ind. 1 6 Cleveland Browns Barkevious Mingo DE LSU SEC 1 7 Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Cooper G North Carolina ACC 1 8 St. Louis Rams Tavon Austin WR West Virginia Big 12 from Buffalo [R1 - 2] 1 9 New York Jets Dee Milliner CB Alabama SEC 1 10 Tennessee Titans Chance Warmack G Alabama SEC 1 11 San Diego Chargers D. I don't see anyone I would have rather had last year. Sheldon Reichardson was a beast, but we didn't have a need at DT. I like Vaccaro and Reid, but S wasn't a pressing need last year either.

Our 3 big needs last year were QB, WR, LB. We knocked it out of the park in round two (thanks to a brilliant trade by Nix/Whaley) to cover the second two, and have since continued to build on those positions. TE was a lesser need than the aforementioned. We didn't really address that, but is there a substitute we should have made? Jordan Reed instead of Goodwin? Probably not.

We may see a lot of these guys step up in 2014, but we may also see EJ do the same. He seemed to be improving in camp, maybe we'll see it on the field soon too. Just my thoughts at the time.

Tonight = /thread.

It's a bad night for the EJ haters. Talking about when he was drafted is now irrelevant.

We've seen this movie before though. Flashes of excellence, but can he sustain it for multiple games at a time?

Also, I thought EJ was a bit of a reach at that position. Partly because it was a poor year for QBs.

The 'wrong pick' was made during previous drafts when they didn't address the QB issue. By 2013 they were desperate and forced to pick from a bad draft class.

^^^

Is 100% correct. We should have been good enough at QB by now to pick someone else with that pick last year
