mountainwampus Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I understand why people are skeptical of Tuel. He looks like a deer in headlights every time the cam focuses on his face. But look at the plays! He played well againt KC. The pick 6 was a stupid play call (Jim Kelly's opinion). TJ lost the game with his fumble 6. Other than that, Tuel had some good throws to extend drives. Stats don't matter with such a small sample size. He's a complete wildcard who seems determined to succeed.

So we can say small sample size for Tuel, But not for Manuel. Oh man this is getting better everyday. The EJ is terrible crowd has now gone onto contradicting each others arguments.
Clippers of Nfl Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 Tuel has a chance to be good. But I think we really need to see these things happen before I am convinced. I think he needs to genetically alter his body so he becomes bigger. He needs to develop a stronger arm by, say, tomorrow. He has to be taught how to run. He has to eliminate an alarming penchant for making a couple very good passes, lulling us to sleep with mediocrity and then making the absolutely horrendous play that knifes our team in the back. He has to become a good quarterback for actual full games. Oh, and he has to develop a time machine (or utilize someone else's) to go back and turn all those 4-21 losses in college and last year with the Bills into wins so he knows how to actually win a game instead of lose one. If he can do all of that, watch out. In his defense, he did have that one sweet run. Wow, that's a horrible college record. That's not helping his cause.

But, since Tuel only started 1 game while EJ started 10, the small sample size is not a valid excuse for EJ.
Kelly the Dog Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 In his defense, he did have that one sweet run. Wow, that's a horrible college record. That's not helping his cause. Well, it was a good fake. There was no one near him on the actual run, Mary Wilson could have made that run. And he could have easily scored if he would have run upfield. I'm not blaming him at all for running out of bounds though in a preseason game like that. I'm pretty sure Marrone thought that was wise.

Lets take a look- First 10 starts for each: Brees - 12TD's 11INT's 1999 yds Manuel - 11TD's 9INT's 1972 yds Man we should have written of that Brees guy after 10 games.
TheBrownBear Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 So we don't score points and don't win. Seems like an awesome effing plan. lets go with the Training camp HOF QB Jeff Tuel as the starter. I cannot wait for this season now. Don't be an idiot. I specifically said I don't like Tuel as a starter for our team right now, but rather as a backup option.

In all fairness, football is the ultimate team game and it's silly to put all the wins and losses on a qb. But dear lord, I don't think I've ever seen a worse college record for a NFL qb ever. Honest question and I'd love for someone to answer it. Has there ever been a NFL qb with a worse college record than Tuel's?

How many knee surgeries did Drew Brees have at that point?
CountDorkula Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 (edited) How many knee surgeries did Drew Brees have at that point? Funny you should ask... http://orthopedics.a...houlder-surgery "What looked like a horrific, career-ending injury turned out to be a life-changing event for Drew Brees. When Dr. Andrews performed Drew Brees' shoulder surgery in 2005, he did more than perform a semi-routine surgery. He helped the New Orleans Saints win a Super Bowl." But obviously, after getting surgery & released by the chargers, the poster knew that Brees would set records and win a Sb. Hindsight rules!

Has there ever been a NFL qb with a worse college record than Tuel's? I can't answer your question, but in Tuel's defense, those WSU teams were historically bad Pac-12 teams. I'm a West Coaster and caught a lot of those games and WSU had very little talent and even worse coaching (under Wulff). Tuel was constantly battered by the opposition. I always thought he looked pretty good and he put a little fear in me as a UCLA fan. I still have trouble ever seeing him as an NFL starter, because he never really closed out games and he seems to be injury prone. He's kind of like Trent Edwards with more of a gunslinger mentality. I think he could be a quality backup.

Has there ever been a NFL qb with a worse college record than Tuel's? I think Cassell never started, so he might have an N/A record as a starter. Now an honest question back at ya. Has there ever been an a successful NFL QB who got hurt 3 times his rookie year?

I'm gonna try that. Qbs who I thought shouldn't have been drafted in the first round: Russell, Losman, leaf. Some of my sleeper Qbs I've liked and thought should have been drafted higher too late: Brady, Warner, Romo. I swear I said this at the time of their drafts.

Has there ever been an a successful NFL QB who got hurt 3 times his rookie year? Matt stafford. Missed 6 games and had worst numbers across the board than EJ. http://m.pfref.com/m?p=XXplayersXXSXXStafMa00.htm&t=0 Furthermore, he basically missed all of his 2nd year. Since then, he hasn't missed a game. I'm good, huh?

One injury over 5 years doesn't have the same gravity as 3 over 10 games. Anyway, I fail to see how Brees has anything to with Manuel. Different players on different teams in different circumstances. The Bills are in "win now" mode. Not "develop EJ" mode. Brees already established himself at the point of his injury. EJ hasn't proven much of anything. What is EJ's trade value at this point?
