I hate Jeff Tuel; Not really hate, but you know what I mean

I don't get why people are always down on tuel.

Unlike the other QBs, at least he had shown some positive development.

It just helps people feel better about Manuel. If his backup looks like he's improving and Manuel doesn't then that doesn't look good by comparison. If Manuel was playing great then everyone would be happy to see Tuel improve and it would be a sign of depth.

He also single handedly torpedoed what was one of the best team efforts last season, so there's that.

Don't forget that his QB play up until that goal line fiasco was some of the best QB play that the team got at any point last season.

He made some nice plays. Consider that all his career mistakes are when targeting TJ Graham. You never know how good he might be with some legitimate WRs. He appears to have drastically improved from last season.

Good point, a lot of people seem to "know" his ceiling, but he was very limited in development time in college. I don't think its truly known yet

I was thinking of posting this in another QB thread on EJ: can we not analyze a QB without naming another guy? Every single QB thread inevitably compares or contrasts all 3 guys. I think that just brings the discourse down.

His first 7 plays were against Giants' starters.

And he had TJ, Woods and Legursky instead of Mike, Sammy and Wood.

Legursky gave up the 3rd down sack vs starters that was extended by penalty

I'm just going by what a Bills reporter stated. He was there. I really don't want to waste time watching the game again.

See this is the stuff that drives me crazy. Even with a 59 td pass, here's his final stat line against the Chiefs: 18-39, 229 yards, 5.9 ypa (again with a 59 yard td), 1 td, 2 ints, 13 points scored, and we lost to a team that didn't score a td. Saying that was the best qb play last year is completely biased.

Look, I want Tuel to be good. It helps the Bills. But the knee jerk some fans have is insane. Tuel had a 45 qb rating last year. EJ had a 77. EJ missed half of training camp and a month of the season. The best thing Tuel did was stay healthy.

EJ is a better qb than Tuel and will be the starter no matter whAt. But Tuel has some value. But stop making a qb debate when not one person in the lockerroom would ever agree with you.

I do agree it's stupid to say what his ceiling is but some folks are doin it with Manuel. But I would struggle to find a successful NFL qb who did less in college than Tuel. And Manuel was much, much more successful than him in college.

If you're going to criticize the post, at least read it accurately. What I said was that before his interception was some of the best QB play all season. Before the int he was 9 out of 15 for 136 yards with 1 TD and 1 int (QB rating of 84.3), and had the offense moving up and down the field. How many times did the Bills have better QB play last season? You don't think that stretch was near the top?

The guy was a rookie, had one start against one of the best defenses in the NFL and played pretty well for large stretches of the game. This season, he came into camp in better shape and looks better than last season by all reports. I don't really get why that's something to hate and beat up on.

Tuel's arm strength is nothing close to NFL caliber. It is woefully inadequate. He amply proved that last year.

Other than that, he's great. And it's really no big deal. It's not like a QB is paid to throw a football or anything like that.

How do you all compare Tuel to any other quarterback at this point? Don't go by last years emergency role. He was a scared, untested deer in the headlights. I'm not saying he's any answer but unless Brady had not been given a chance, you might be talking about him in the same fashion early on. Get real, get over hype, and hope for the best. I don't see an effective number one in EJ at this point either. Thus our options are limited and you have to determine what you've got.

So EJ having 296 against the #2 overall defense doesn't count? Or rebounding against Rex Ryan in terrible conditions? Again, we scored 13 points against KC (we had 200 yards rushing!). EJ lost a game against ATL where we scored 31 points.

And the rookie thing is mute. EJ actually had significantly less practice time than Tuel did last year.

Again, I'm a Bills fan. I want both guys to develop into players. But creating (and not pointing at you) a qb debate when there isn't one is pointless.

Do you ever use context with your stats?

I know you look for any chance to put EJ down but stop making up stuff. http://www.wgr550.co...2416&pid=418726

Tuel played, and played well, against first stringers. Just because you didn't notice doesn't mean it didn't happen.

You're right. Using Tuel's qb rating in last year's preseason & regular season vs. EJ's is meaningless. Also, showing the stats Tuel had in his start (5.9 ypa, under 50%, 13 points, essentially one play) has no bearing on the argument.

I'll just go along with you. EJ sucks. Tuel is awesome. What prize do we win for saying it first?
