It is a decent read. I thought that the guy was pretty informed until he talked about Cordy Glenn's "up and down year." The guy gave up like 1.5 sacks!! While I don't agree with most of what he said (ie Kyle Williams is a poor man's Justin Smith) it is worth the couple of minutes.

yup. gordy is the what rated tackle in the nfl? 11th? and to me thats underrated. seriously. but overall i think its a fair assesement ( sp??)( or even wording?? :D )

but as he - and a lot of other writers - said: we will go as far as ej will take us. hopefully it is into january

Yeah, that was a bizarre comment. The only thing "down" about Glenn's season was having to cover Colin Brown's useless ass for six weeks.

Hyde is nothing like Spiller. He would have been Fred's successor. Whaley settled for Brown.

I like when we "settle" for players like Bryce Brown.....

I think Bryce is gonna get an opportunity at some point this year and is gonna own it.......

This review made up problems that don't exist (Cordy Glenn) and glossed over major problems from last season. (not a word about kick and punt coverage, which arguably cost us three games last season?)

Meh. Standard article on a national site from a writer whom probably watched 1 Bills game last season in total and is basing most of his "opinions" on the hivemind.

2012 second-round left tackle Cordy Glenn, who is coming off an up-and-down sophomore season

Oh, you mean the season where he gave up only 1.5 sacks on a line that allowed 48 in total? Plus he played next to the worst LG in all of pro-football in Colin Brown and whatever misfits replaced him

Schwartz’s defense must prosper because the Bills are not equipped to win with offense

Whaley spent all off-season addressing this and has made this offense into one that can win games. The addition of Sammy Watkins and Mike Williams gives us a tremendously better WR corp & if both realize their potential, a top 10 WR corp.

This is a run first offense & they now have one of the best stable of RB's in the league: CJ Spiller (5.1 ypc), Fred Jackson, Bryce Brown, and Anthony Dixon. The additions of Brown and Dixon addresses the biggest hole in our run offense which was short yardage and goalline situations.

Now add the improvements to the o-line in Chris Williams, Cyrus Kouandjio, and Cyril Richardson & this team should be able to take control of games with their running attack. Once teams load up the box, we have Sammy Watkins and Marquise Goodwin to blow the top off them. Once in the redzone, Mike Williams has shown he can catch nearly everything in a jump ball situation in the endzone- his 25 TD's in a little over 3 seasons of action prove that. Sammy Watkins is no slouch in that department either

Yes, their are major question about Manuel but we don't need him to be Drew Brees or Peyton Manning. We just need some steady improvement from him & let his highly skilled skill players do most of the work. This isn't an offense that will have him throwing it 40 times a game. He was very raw coming out of FSU and missed a ton of valuable reps due to injury during his rookie TC. He has now had a full off-season in the NFL and has been able to work with his WR's. He has shown some nice improvement over the past few practices & if he stays healthy, I see good things ahead for this offense

And the up bit , was covering for Legursky ? or did Wood pick up his slack ?

Glenn was as quiet as a mouse . thats good right ?

A 6-10 prediction? Wow, really going out on a limb there..

Until and unless EJ proves he is the real deal the Bills likely are range bound in the W column maybe they get as many as 9 if EJ plays ok. It probably takes 10 wins to get to the playoffs. To get here EJ is going to have to win some games with his play. Time will tell.

This was a very good article for a national media guy. But, in fact, I don't expect to learn much about the Bills from the national media. Trying to follow 32 teams, they just won't know as much about the Bills as we do here on TBD.

The analytics websites sometimes have interesting stuff. But when I read or watch SI, ESPN or most other national media outlets, it's usually because I'm curious how the Bills are being presented. I'm not expecting to learn anything new.

Excellent point about special teams. You never really know what you have there until the bullets start flying for real. I hope it's a lot better than last year's horrible display. THAT could be the downfall for our loyal HC, but it's hard to tell this early.

He's a traditionalist, I suppose.

Some quotes that make me un-excited about our coming season. Mostly because there is some truth there:

1) "Most schemes, and especially a fairly simplistic, straightforward one like Schwartz’s, are as good as their lineup."

2) "Working against [DE Jerry] Hughes is the fact that he’ll now operate with a hand in the dirt, which he never excelled at as a first-round bust in Indianapolis." (uh, what's the point of changing to a defense where one of our stars cant do what he does best?)

----

Why cant the Shwartz just run Pettine's defense instead of his own simplistic one? We still own the playbook. The players still know it. It worked. What's the problem?

(I mean, I know the Shwartz wants another head coaching job, and wants to show he is a defensive mastermind by running his own 1990s defensive scheme, but isnt he better off learning a system that worked, being successful at it, and THEN getting national attention?)
