Guffalo Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Stealing players from waiver wire Although we did the same with Jack Kemp years ago
Kelly the Dog Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Stealing players from waiver wire Although we did the same with Jack Kemp years ago And Steve Tasker.
MrLocke Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I was about to say Tasker. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bills have Jerry Glanville to thank for that. What an idiot!
CountryCletus Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I'm inclined to agree with BB... The rules are the rules... The Panthers had other options other than waiving him.... Oh well..
Kellyto83TD Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 What is the issue? Screw 'Un written rules'. If Buffalo would do some of that ****, maybe we start making the playoffs instead of being bottom dwellers
The Wiz Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 What is the issue? Screw 'Un written rules'. If Buffalo would do some of that ****, maybe we start making the playoffs instead of being bottom dwellers They do do that. They just take the bottom dwellers of the waiver wire.
Kemp2Warlick Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 They do do that. They just take the bottom dwellers of the waiver wire. ..LOL
eball Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I hate it anytime somebody brings up an "unwritten rule" argument. If it was important enough, there would be a written rule. I think baseball's "unwritten" rule book is larger than the printed one.
DC Tom Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I hate it anytime somebody brings up an "unwritten rule" argument. If it was important enough, there would be a written rule. And in this case, if there were a written rule about it, it would defeat the whole purpose of the "waiver wire."
reddogblitz Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Was Tasker or Jack Kemp injured when we picked them up? Both before my time as a Bills fan. The "unwritten rule" is not to take injured players according to the article, which is dumb. As much as I hate Bill Bellyache I wouldn't classify this as cheating. Stealing someone off waivers is like stealing something out of someone's trash can out at the curb on trash day. I love eball's comment about baseball's unwritten rules.
Best Player Available Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 i dislike the hoody*. That said winning teams are always looking to improve. Don't see any foul play here. if Whaley did it Buffalo fans would be screaming how Great a move it was. fortunately were stacked at that position.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Stealing players from waiver wire Although we did the same with Jack Kemp years ago I have to reluctantly side with the Hated Hoodie on this one. You waive a player, he's available for 31 other teams to sign him. Don't want to risk losing a player, don't expose him to waivers.

The "unwritten rule" is not to take injured players according to the article, which is dumb. As much as I hate Bill Bellyache I wouldn't classify this as cheating. Tasker was. But this was a different time, with different rules. Pretty much no one did what the Bills did to get him, although teams wouldn't normally put great players on waivers, hoping to pass them through with the unwritten law that no one would take them. The Bills just thought he was going to be too good a player to pass up, so they took him. It was not as though he was a star then. And in this case, if there were a written rule about it, it would defeat the whole purpose of the "waiver wire." Maybe it's one of those unwritten "there is an exception to every rule" rules. If that were the case, and there was actually an exception to every rule, there would be an exception to THAT rule, and there would be one rule without an exception, unless, of course, the one rule without an exception was the rule that says there is an exception to every rule. Hmmm...

Captain Caveman Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Yeah, if he's worth keeping, you cut one of the 20+ guys you already know don't have a shot, and wait until he doesn't have to pass through waivers.
NoSaint Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I'm amazed. Up is down, left is right. Bills fans not flaming BB? Will Weo come in and say BB was out of line just to be contrarian?!?

I remember that Kemp had a broken finger when we picked him up. It was in a splint at the time.
