It's embarrassing that Rice got 2 games and weed gets you a year. But Gordon is getting a year for being an idiot.
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 wow...I was sure that they were going to cut it down a bit after irsay and rice got off scott free. Be nice if Browns gave us our 1st rd pick back for Mike W. why on earth would we trade him and leave our wr group where tj graham is the seasoned veteran?
Kelly the Dog Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Now it's being reported that Gordon will be allowed to apply for reinstatement following the 2014 season, not have to wait until one calendar year. At least that is more fair, regardless of what you think about the year long suspension.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 @JasonLaCanfora Josh Gordon's suspension is for a year, but casts doubt beyond that. Will time be on Gordon's side? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24682736/why-his-suspension-puts-josh-gordons-browns-and-nfl-career-in-peril …
Canadian Bills Fan Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 So the moral of the story is hit your wife before you hit the joint? CBF
truth on hold Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 NFL has harsh penalties for substance abuse, more so than just about any other employer, and far too harsh IMO . But they're known and evenly applied. Gordon, his team, and agent knew the rules, there's no excusing him.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 @MaryKayCabot Josh Gordon wants to play in Canada but can't right now because of CFL's Ricky Williams rule http://dlvr.it/6lR8db
Canadian Bills Fan Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Glad I drafted Jordan Cameron in my fantasy league CBF

26CornerBlitz Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 @MaryKayCabot Browns Josh Gordon will sell cars while serving his season-long suspension, according to a report http://dlvr.it/6pn9gZ
Kelly the Dog Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 @MaryKayCabot Browns Josh Gordon will sell cars while serving his season-long suspension, according to a report http://dlvr.it/6pn9gZ Because nothing says "Goodwill ambassador," "believe in my company," or "buy what I'm selling" stronger than "Josh Gordon." And how the heck did he possibly get a DUI driving "a camouflage Porsche." How did they even see him?!
Mr. WEO Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 @MaryKayCabot Browns Josh Gordon will sell cars while serving his season-long suspension, according to a report http://dlvr.it/6pn9gZ Looks like this is essentially a career internship....
FireChan Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 He better watch out. I'm pretty sure dealerships drug test.
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 @Rotoworld_FB Report: Josh Gordon still considering lawsuit http://dlvr.it/6nJf8D Who is he going to sue? His brain?
truth on hold Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) Honestly what's the point of a year long suspension? So the player can be depressed, isolated, and have nothing to do but think about it, setting up an environment for more substance abuse? Edited September 4, 2014 by Joe_the_6_pack
buffaloboyinATL Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Honestly what's the point of a year long suspension? So the player can be depressed and have nothing to do but think about it, setting up an environment for more substance abuse? I would argue it is more about setting and example and hopefully scaring other fools away from said behavior, than it is about penalizing the original fool.
truth on hold Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I would argue it is more about setting and example and hopefully scaring other fools away from said behavior, than it is about penalizing the original fool. Any evidence that's working? Isn't that what the normal civil and criminal penalties are supposed to do?
buffaloboyinATL Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Any evidence that's working? Isn't that what the normal civil and criminal penalties are supposed to do? Not neccesarily. Work places often have rules to regulate things to protect their image that may exceed rules and punishments established by civil norms. As an example, a restaurant may have hygiene or wardrobe regulations for it's employees. Violation of these rules may result in penalties such as days off without pay and repeated violations could lead to long term "suspension" or termination. These penalties exceed those that would be issued in civil or criminal cases but are within the right of the employer to protect their corporate image. The NFL has the right to levy stricter penalties than normal criminal or civil cases, in order to protect their brand. As to whether this works as a detergent compared to the alternative, I couldn't say unless I saw that strategy in action.
