Mike Schopp said something today that had me wondering...

Not to thread hijack but was anyone listening to this douchebag when a caller just passing through the area called in to try to make a point that the station sounded like it was owned by Robert Kraft cuz of how negative against the bills schlep sounded....schlep immediately cut the guy off and told him he didn't care about his opinion or call cuz he is not a regular listener....if in my job, I treated a patient that was just in town for that day and told them I didn't care about their business cuz they weren't a regular patient and my company got wind of this, I would immediately be shown the door....also...no one gives a crap about your personal life so please refrain from bringing up constantly on the air. I wish the would extend rich gaenzler on 1270 to compete with wgr...so much better....I wish sal would jump ship to 1270 as well cuz I think he should have his own show.

I listened to the show for about 5 min on the ride home yesterday and caught that exchange. I was actually super excited to hear what the guy was going to say, but then he was cut off. I changed the channel after that.

Schoop is terrible and probably the worst radio hosts that any of the 32 NFL team have. That said, of course it's a hard game to win. Home opener in a tough environment.

But I think Cutler is the definition of whatever. I can see him throwing 5 tds as easily as I can see him throwing 5 ints.

I've tried listening to local Buffalo radio online and that Schopp/Bulldog show is easily one of the worst sports radio shows I've ever listened to. All I remember is that they threw out a question of the day, then they would say "I don't know" a lot, then instead of providing intelligent analysis, they would try making a big bold statement meant to antagonize Bills fans. I don't know why any Bills fan would put themselves through something like that. Aggravation for the sake of aggravation is not appealing to me.

I listen to Philly's 97.5 The Fanatic mostly since they love talking about football even when it's off season. Most of their hosts are passionate intelligent fans of football.

The Bills will have a legitimate shot of winning the Bears game because they have the defense to make it a close, last possession game. Schopps "bold" statement was just plain stupid and seems like something that was said to get Bills fans heated.

Ok, first thing I did was go to Wiki...

1993, beat the Cowboys... the eventual Superbowl Champions (against us)

1994, beat the Patriots (Wild Card team), and Dolphins (1st AFCE)

1995, beat the Colts (Wild Card team)

1996, beat the Eagles (Wild Card team)

1997, no road wins against playoff teams, but did beat the 9-7 Jets

1998, no road wins against playoff teams

1999, beat the Dolphins (Wild Card team), and Washington (1st NFCE)

2000, no road wins against playoff teams

2001, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2002, no road wins against playoff teams, but did beat the 9-7 Dolphins

2003, no road wins against playoff teams

2004, beat the Seahawks (1st NFCW)

2005, beat the Bengals (1st AFCN)

2006, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2007, beat Washington (Wild Card team)

2008, no road wins against playoff teams

2009, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2010, no road wins against playoff teams

2011, no road wins against playoff teams

2012, no road wins against playoff teams

2013, no road wins against playoff teams

Good research.

This! There's been a few since 1992, but close to none since 1999. I guess you could argue the road win against the Seahawks in 2004 and Redskins in 2007 as there was still a chance they could make the playoffs, but other then that those other games were pretty meaningless. Schopp has a point, he's just off on the years. I would be pretty surprised if the Bills beat the Bears on opening day and if they did it would tell me the Bears are in for a bad to average season and not necessarily that the Bills are a good team just because of this teams recent history of being a below average football franchise.

actually, the 1st and last games of the season are typically the least indicative of the team's overall record.

This. Compared to WFAN around NYC it is a complete joke. Almost painful to listen to.

The only thing about WFAN is that they LOVE talking Mets/Yankees baseball and the football talk is very rare during the offseason. In Philly, NFL football is the king.

If we are talking about a tough road win that was really important for the Bills to win, then I can't think of any in recent memory. Have the Bills even kept the season alive come December 1st in a while? This team deserves every bit of criticism until they can prove to turn it around. No excuses this year, the talent is here to win and nothing shy of 9-7 should be accepted as successful.

Anyone the Bills beat automatically becomes a crap team. That's how the game is played with Schopp. He's never wrong because when the Bills pound the Bears he'll come back and say the Bears stink.

I hate Schoop but his point is well taken. It is hard to have big road wins though when you are rarely playing in big games. Honestly, some of these late in the year road games over the last decade they were better off losing.

Actually his point is not well taken at all. He said that he could not envision any way the Bills win the opener, for the reason that they have not had a quality road win since 1992. Previous posters totally shot that down. We have had several quality road wins since 1992 (though not nearly enough). And of course there are many ways we could end up winning the Bears game. That's why they play the damn thing. He's just trying to be provocative without any factual basis to back it up.

+1.

Guys like Schopp are classic button pushers and pot stirrers. That is how they get people to listen to their show. Say something to rile up the fan base, piss them off, or tease them with a tweet, and they get listens and clicks.

Just ignore his show.

You can argue he hasn't had a quality win in the ratings either.

It will prob be a high scoring game. If that happens, it might help us out. That will force Cutler to throw a lot. Even though cutler is better than EJ, he will throw some interceptions to us if he throws a lot. That is the only way I see it happening. I know their defense sucks and our defense is pretty good, but their offense is way to good for us to rely on our D. Our offense needs to be ready to score 35+ points if they are going to win. And even with Mike williams and Sammy, I am not sure how much I trust this offense, especially on the road. 24 points seems more realistic

but here is hoping for a big game. opening the season with a road win would be huge

yea.... since 2000 6 road wins against playoff teams isnt all that inspiring. even if he was in a very literal sense wrong, the spirit of his critique wasnt that far off.

is chicago a playoff team, and are we the same old bills are still fair questions. that the 2001 bills couldnt win on the road doesnt say anything to me about this squad.

In addition, I am not a big fan of things from 10 years ago. What difference does it make it different players (and coaches) lost to other different players in 2004? Those guys aren't going to have an impact on the road games this year so who cares?!? Now if you want to deal with the current group it's a different story and much more applicable.

bingo.

It's a tough one to argue as we haven't had many games that mattered that we've won since 1992. When you haven't made the playoffs in over a decade it's hard to point to signature victories yet alone with the added qualifier of on the road.

Could be, but I would define a road win against a quality team as a win over a playoff team. I agree about games that matter, but for that D-bag to make an incorrect and bombastic statement makes for bad radio. You shouldn't need to lie if your point is valid, and his might be, but he's overstating the truth at best. Plus he's a d-bag. :)

I live in Chicago and the Buffalo game is looked at as a gift.

And I know the Bears offense is going to be good. If the Bills defense doesn't play better than last year (with worse players), this game is more likely to be over by half time.

I think the Bills' only chance is to run all day and keep Cutler off the field. Believe it when I see it. I have no optimism left.

Was the season opener over KC in 2011 a big win? Bleacher Report said the Chiefs would slaughter us 42-7. (link not allowed.)

I hope every player on the Bears is looking past Buffalo, Don't forget we have a DC who knows the Bears well. The Lions swept them in 2013.

So when we beat the bears maybe Shopp will shut his big fat trap for like 5 seconds

No. He'll say the Bears are overrated.

1st of all, Da Bears AREN'T a quality opponent. We drubbed a quality team at KC in the opener 2 seasons ago and they never recovered that season. Chicago's defense was ranked 30th last season on merit! Their worst defense in the history of their franchise. Obviously, they tried to address it this off season, but there's no way they'll turn it completely around by the opener. I work with a few Bears fans and they think their 'vaunted' offense will be held pretty much in check by our D and Cutler doesn't perform well under pressure. Their take is the game comes down to their revamped D against our mediocre O.

I think THEY will be in for a big surprise!

2nd, Schoop is an embarrassment to WNY.

Schopp is an embarrassment to all English speakers. The person I'd most like to throw a bucket of s**t at.
