YoloinOhio
Fwiw Jackson Carman looks terrible in the Army All-American game right now. OSU signee Max Wray got the start over him at LT, then when he got in he gave up a sack and looks slow and fat. I don’t see him playing LT in college. Willyville Guy
Nice. Weber showed big play ability and breakaway speed when he got healthy at the end of the season. OSU will have to (hopefully) rely heavily on the running backs next year while breaking in a new QB for the first time in several years. Willyville Guy
Coach Coombs to the Titans just days after Urban held off an effort to recruit Coach Day to the Titans. Vrabel needs to chill out on going after the entire OSU staff.

While Coombs is a big loss for the Buckeyes wrt his recruiting and CB development, as well as motivation and enthusiasm, i don’t quite see the fit in the NFL. He’s a HS and college lifer, and i think his coaching style best fits that audience. That said, he’s 65 or something and likely is looking for less travel with recruiting. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Alex grinch is a secondary coach who rose to DC. So that void is filled with having 2 DCs, though they will add another coach to replace Coombs Edited January 24, 2018 by YoloinOhio

So that void is filled with having 2 DCs, though they will add another coach to replace Coombs I agree with all that, although I'm skeptical about the "altercation" rumors between Urban and Vrabel from a few years back. Not too worried about Coombs's departure with the new guy already in place. I'll miss his recruiting and legendary pep talks more than anything. "Why are you taking water? We're stretching! And you're a kicker!"
YoloinOhio
I definitely remember hearing about Vrabes going after both Urban and Jim Bollman at separate times. He’s a complete jackass, tbh. I loved him as a player but I have s buddy who coached youth sports with him and he was a real Neanderthal to parents and kids, with homophobic slurs, etc. joey Bosa didn’t like his style either - called him a yeller and “fake Buckeye”. Fickell was the total opposite, 100% class. I truly think if vrabel was still here instead of LJ, Nick Bosa would have gone elsewhere. Anyway... I would love to see Vrabel and Coombs on Hard Knocks! Make it happen, Titans!

It is but... there is a bit of a divide between the old school buckeyes (pre-Urban) and the Urban guys. Vrabel (from what I hear) doesn’t give a crap about Ohio State and even less about urban. He thinks cfb is a crap job, hated recruiting, hated Urban’s demands, and is telling everyone they should get out because the grass is greener. While he may be right in some respects, some coaches truly love recruiting and have a goal of one day runnng their own program, like Tom Herman. I think Ryan Day is in that category. And cfb typically offers more stability. If you don’t love recruiting and can go to the NFL, you should go. The hours are long including the offseason, but you are home every night. Bosa and Vrabel couldn’t more different in terms of their personalities, so I can see how that didn’t mesh. I think that it will be interesting to see how MV and KC’s style goes over with the Titans. Bosa and Vrabel couldn’t more different in terms of their personalities, so I can see how that didn’t mesh. I think that it will be interesting to see how MV and KC’s style goes over with the Titans. The divide, as I understand it, is really between Tressel-era people and Urban-era people. Vrabel played for Cooper, and I don’t think Buckeyes from the 90s really fall into either camp. (Bruce-era Buckeyes may tend to support Urban because of his time with the program back then.) He’s kind of an enigma to me. I liked him for stepping up for Fickell when the team was in disarray, but he’s never been one of the solid guys around the program from that era like, for example, Matt Finkes. Joey, on the other hand, is part of a family with an unimpeachable commitment to Ohio State. So if Joey thinks Vrabel is BS, I give that a lot of weight. That said, I agree 100% about the rigors of CFB and life on the road. Taking a sweet NFL position and relieving himself of the travel must have been very attractive to Coombs, who was never going to run his own program, regardless of Vrabel and his relationship with OSU. Separately, I see that several Buckeye insiders view Day as a Tom Herman type of coach — maybe even a successor to Urban. I’m not quite there. Day came in to fix the QB position, and in my view he didn’t do it last year. I see the accolades from JT and Burrow and others, and the Chip Kelly endorsement is significant, but the evidence wasn’t on the field in 2017. Herman, by contrast, got the offense going immediately. And his press conferences were must-see internet because he was so smart and forthright about what was happening and why. I don’t see any of that in Day right now.
