FireChan Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Obvi. Weed is way worse than beating a women. It's not about what's worse, it's about what affects the game. Substances do. Personal issues don't. The NFL isn't a court.
Tyrod's Tailor Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 It's not about what's worse, it's about what affects the game. Substances do. Personal issues don't. The NFL isn't a court. Weed is a PED? That's news to me.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Weed is a PED? That's news to me. Pot Enabling Drug. had to try
FireChan Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Weed is a PED? That's news to me. Didn't say it was. The NFL has strict rules about drug use because of the possible effects on the game. They don't judge things based on morality. That's not their MO. They aren't the law. Acting like they should be is stupid. There's a personal life and a professional life. The NFL shouldn't and doesn't try to bridge those gaps. Edited July 24, 2014 by FireChan

YoloinOhio Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 wtf - Chris Mortensen @mortreport 1m Ray Rice's additional game check fine docked from 2013 base salary of $1 million, not 2014 base of $4 million. That's $58,823 vs. $235,294
FireChan Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Oh, so this doesn't negatively affect how people feel about the game. Gotcha. I didn't say it made sense, I said that's how the rules work. And no, are you gonna boycott the NFL now? Let me be clear, the Ravens organization should be the ones doing something. The commissioner shouldn't go above the rules on a moral whim. die hard bills fan Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Harbaugh said Rice made a mistake. No, a mistake is when you buy Cheerios and your wife wanted corn flakes. Rice committed a felony. This. It's unbelievable he only got 2 games. I think this will turn into a huge blackeye for the NFL after the media runs with it. I hope he is required to undergo mandatory counseling by the NFL? This is domestic violence and needs to be dealt with strongly. My fear is this was not the first time or the last time this will happen with him.

The mandated counseling is really swell . The woman was dragged. not lovingly carried or close even . And its for all the world to see . Ray Rice aint right .

That's not their MO. They aren't the law. Acting like they should be is stupid. There's a personal life and a professional life. The NFL shouldn't and doesn't try to bridge those gaps. If they didn't try to "bridge those gaps" there would be no suspension at all. The fact that there is a suspension means that what's you're saying is a load of bunk. They NFL absolutely has a code of conduct and the commish has pretty much carte blanche to dole out punishments as he sees fit. Apparently, knocking out your fiance is worthy of 2 games...

It probably would have been only a one game suspension if it wasn't for the look that Rice gave to the dude standing outside the elevator when he was dragging her out. Like, "Oh, fuk, now I have to deal with THIS yahoo who just saw me drag my knocked out wife out of the elevator?!!"
RyanC883 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) So the NFL is saying to all these kids watching.... 'Beat your woman....just don't be smoking weed when you do it!" wonder if that would cancel itself out? Or don't hit your dog while beating a women, or smoke weed. Amazing the leniency towards domestic violence by the NFL. And how is he not in jail. Edited July 25, 2014 by RyanC883
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Weed is a PED? That's news to me. What?? It is absolutely a PED Try going to a phish concert with and without. Def enhances that performance Getting frisky? See how well you rock that after engaging in some enhancement. A whole new level. Maybe not for football. But def a PED

DJasper Probincrux III Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 So Keith Olbermann goes on a giant rant on this topic tonight - then has Darryl Strawberry on later in the show to shill his new book. smh.
machine gun kelly Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 wherever you stand on the number of games deserved, i feel like i have seen a lot of false equivalency issues in the discussions (ive seen both comparisons to gordon who is a 3 time offender in a negotiated drug system, and also incognito which exposes the nfl to workplace issues). Exactly on Gordon. That was my point. It's comparing apples to oranges. Gordon follows the strict substance abuse policy which is spelled out in the CBA. Now Incognito although different due to harassment still falls under the personal misconduct policy so you can in essence compare the two as they fall in the same bucket. One can argue the merits of what is worse and what should be the punishment, but they are still under the venue of personal misconduct. Roethlisberger got 4 games I think. Actually I think it was 6.... It was 4. I'm positive on that one, as the buzz was how the back up was able to get them to come out 3-1.
machine gun kelly Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Lastly, the court ordered counseling is from just that, the courts which is standard in domestic violence crimes. The NFL nor the Ravens can mandate counseling as it is not in their CBA. It's what the players agreed two years ago and stands for 8 more years. It may not be right, but it's a fact. The issue is there should be some type of change negotiated in the next CBA. This goes towards drug abuse as well as some of these issues. Someone like Josh Gordon really needs to get into an extensive rehab facility to dry out, and work on his issues. His issues go beyond just wanting to get high every once in awhile. Lastly, there is speculation Goodell was lenient with Rice as he's been in the past a model player and good in the community for 6 years. I'm not taking this opinion, just sharing what is the speculation.
