Tyrod's Tailor Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Ok, so I can answer this one. ESPN had some guy on last night who they billed as their "NFL front office specialist", because he had some direct experience there. He said that Harbaugh is used to dealing with the media, Harbaugh is good at "holding off" the media, & Harbaugh is the face of the franchise to the media. And you know what? I did watch all of Harbaugh's little presser, and he did do a very good job with it. The other front office guys could have done no better, and they may have even made it worse by saying something stupid. I get what you're saying, and that makes "strategic sense." I guess my point is that the absence of senior management is just the latest ****ty thing that organization has done.

ExiledInIllinois Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Anybody who has seen an abusive relationship up close knows that this is nonsense. Is it possible that Rice can reform himself? It's possible. They have a sh-t ton of stuff to work out, though, and there is a power dynamic that she will probably never fully be able to extricate herself from, no matter how contrite he is. "It takes two to tango" is circling back to the victim-blaming dumbassery that suggests she invited a lights out punch in an elevator. Was she physically involved in the altercation? No doubt. Is Ray Rice big and strong enough to control the situation without decking her? Yes, he is. I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that. You are right. I don't want to blame the victim. I was replying to feeling sorry for her NOT living a lavish life. I feel sorry for her abuse.

And as the Senate President, it's his responsibility to get the law changed. We are led by complete retards. @cnnbrk NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell tells CBS that the league was unable to obtain the Ray Rice in-elevator video. http://cnn.it/1tIIKjs New Jersey confirmed that, too - they would have been handing over grand jury evidence, which is illegal as hell.

Would the casino be in violation of any law if they were to give the NFL a copy because of possible grand jury evidence, or no?
Rob's House Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Would the casino be in violation of any law if they were to give the NFL a copy because of possible grand jury evidence, or no? No. The Casino could turn it over to whoever it likes. Grand jury proceedings are confidential but the evidence does not become protected from disclosure by a third party in possession of such evidence just because it was presented to a grand jury. Edit: To expound upon that, just because the prosecution had the tape (if they even did; I haven't heard one way or the other) wouldn't necessarily mean the league had access to it. Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 You are thinking of civil cases. In criminal cases, the prosecutors can proceed with the case with or without the consent of the victim That is true, but I understand from some lawyer friends that it can be very difficult to prosecute successfully without the testimony of the victim for the prosecution. If the victim says "well, yeah, but he was just defending himself" there is that element of "reasonable doubt" our legal system is bound to respect.
Doc Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 So now the NFL didn't see the in-elevator footage until yesterday. Looks like North and Furman were right.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 If your argument is that there aren't women who are big enough and strong enough to put up a fight with the man they're involved with then your argument is weak, and I'm being generous. What exactly is your argument? Rob, I respect you for much of what you post, but if you didn't bother to read my original post and understand what my argument is, why are you weighing in here with the "your argument is weak and I'm being generous" snipe? No offense, but it seems rather silly from a usually sensible, reasoned poster.

MattM Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Goodell is the one who needs to go for his handling of this mess. It's ridiculous to me that they didn't see this--willful blindness at its finest. What did they think happened to her to be knocked out cold? They obviously thought this tape would never get out--he has a history of crap like that. Kraft coming out and shilling for Goodell's job today took the case. Gee, Bob, I wonder why you want him to stay? How much coddling can one team get? Afraid that might stop with the next guy? To me it's more and more apparent daily that Goodell and the League are seeking to put this whole mess on Ray Rice (who obviously needs to be punished severely as the one who punched his fiancée) and sacrifice him and his career in an effort to save themselves....

Roger Goodell Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Hey everyone, check it out, the Bills have a new owner! Let's talk about that for a while!
