Guy's been hurt since the day he was drafted.... LOVED him at NIU. -Super physical presence. Speed, strength, ability to penetrate, etc. However, as a pro, he's been WORTHLESS. Damaged, expired, and unwanted goods. -Thank you, please drive thru.

CountryCletus Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 For the minimum, he's worth a shot... What is the worst that can happen.... Can't they just bring him in for a work out and see what he has?

I'd really like to be able to say "Might be worth a look. Why not?" -However, the realiity is that he might perform just good enough to peak interest. Maybe even good enough to seduce an inexperienced staff into a short-term commitment. Therein lies the problem. Classic bait and switch/wasted roster spot. English has the moves. Just not the durability.

White Linen Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I'm waiting for Brooks Reed in free agency next year.
#34fan Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 IF he would improve our roster- even just depth, it's worth a shot Dead weight never improves your roster. -Wish English the best tho...
Nanker Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 There's not a lot to like But then again, there's a lot not to like.
White Linen Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 But then again, there's a lot not to like. Precisely. IMO these are the exact type of players this new regime won't sign.
Bangarang Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I'm waiting for Brooks Reed in free agency next year. I really liked Reed and wanted us to draft him since we were doing the whole 3-4 defense thing.
boyst Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Precisely. IMO these are the exact type of players this new regime won't sign. this is the guy that Chan/ Nix might sign, or previous regimes. I mean, Eddie Robinson, Jim Jeffcoat, Mario Anderson, etc. Can't get much worse
maddenboy Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Pass. Not a Whaley-type, methinks. English wasnt just a bad system fit (as Jerry Hughes was with the Colts). English was just bad. And I assume SD tried to trade him for a stale bag of peanuts before releasing him, so I'd say 30 other teams are not very excited either. Edited July 24, 2014 by maddenboy
thebandit27 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Man was I wrong about this guy. I remember thinking he would be the premier pass rusher to come out of that '09 draft--whoops. For a camp body that may show something, sure, I'd give him a look. I wouldn't count on him contributing though.
Turbosrrgood Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Wow, no. He was a total bust for SD, not to mention he played in a 3-4 defense his entire pro career (Schwartz's scheme is the polar opposite), as a supposed pass rusher. He has 11 sacks in a very disappointing and injury riddled career. The fact that SD cut him, when he was due to make very little speaks volumes. Edited July 24, 2014 by Turbosrrgood
CountryCletus Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Looks like they saved $1,542,500 this year- more if the bonus has yet to be paid...
