Augie Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Did you play football? I've seen some guys get blasted trying to block punts. Balls to the face, gut, nuts, etc. Saw a guy block a field goal with his thigh, the pad didn't even do enough to protect him and he still ended up with a nice welt. Kids on my sons high school team used to alligator arm it when they actually got close enough to block one. Led to some serious harassment when caught on tape and replayed slowly and repeatedly. Heck, we used to block punts and kicks in pick up games without helmets. That may explain some things about me... That ball can hurt, and a full kick to the throat or ribs is no day at the beach either!

It sure does hurt- but achieving legend status doesn't come without it's fair share of pain!!!

Senior year, one of my first games back from serious injury. We're down by 7 with less then 3 minutes on the clock and Springfield is punting from their 40something. In the huddle our fastest guy comes up to me and says coach told me to tell you to get me to the ball. So we get another guy. One guy is one of our fastest guys, our starting RB, and the other our starting DT. I was a big dude then, too, but still incredibly quick. I get down in my 3pt stance and tell the two guys in front of me that they are about to blow their game and be the reason they lost. At the snap I take both guys, wrap them up and drive them straight to the ground, throwing them then take the personal protector on as the DT and RB come in untouched - the DT blocks it, the RB picks it up and runs it in for a TD. That was fun.

That was fun. I would have gone back to the sidelines and said to the coach "is there anything else I can do for you?" That's an awesome story dude... My high school just had their 5th alumni game- I have been unable to play due to knee surgery and 2 shoulder surgeries- but the day will come... I am hungry to get some hits in!!
Augie Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 It sure does hurt- but achieving legend status doesn't come without it's fair share of pain!!! True! My son blocked quite a few kicks, but the legend most often re-told is that of Mr. Short Arms!
CountryCletus Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 True! My son blocked quite a few kicks, but the legend most often re-told is that of Mr. Short Arms! My story time... Our team was junk... We were playing the soon to be state champs at the end of the reg season and we lost the toss, and kicked off... Rainy miserable day... First three kickoffs slipped out of the returners hands and were recovered and taken to the house for TD's... Must have sucked being that team... Win the toss, elect to receive, and be down 21-0 before your offense takes the field...

Augie Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Those years are gone- we are a winning football team now.... I'm buying it! (But 21 quick points would help get that W.)
CountryCletus Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I'm buying it! (But 21 quick points would help get that W.) Well... Maybe this would be a grand time to finish my story... We lost... By a lot!!
