Doc Posted April 23 Posted April 23 4 hours ago, ChiGoose said: Keeping in mind that the reason the Australian stabbing made international news is because of how rare mass killings are there, here's just some examples of how it goes when someone tries a mass killing in Texas: 2017: 26 year old Air Force vet opened fire at a church, killing 26 people 2017: 32 year old man opens fire at a football watch party, killing 8 2018: 17 year old killed 10 people at a high school near Huston 2019: 36 year old started randomly shooting people between Midland and Odessa, killing 7 2019: 21 year old opened fire at a Walmart, killing 22 2022: 18 year old kills 21 at Uvalde Elementary School 2023: Gunman kills 8 in mall shooting Also, keep in mind that even in a country with so many guns: self-defense gun use occurs in only 1% of shootings. More guns equals more gun homicides: for every 1% increase in gun ownership, the firearm homicide rate increased by 0.9% States with higher rates of gun ownership have disproportionately large numbers of firearm related homicides So yeah, if someone wanted to kill a bunch of people in Texas, they'd just get a gun and mow people down. Meanwhile there's the equivalent of the rare mass shooting every weekend in Chicago... 1
B-Man Posted April 29 Posted April 29 CIVIL RIGHTS UPDATE: Georgia Governor Kemp Signs Law to Protect Financial Data of Gun Buyers. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has signed into law HB 1018, the Second Amendment Privacy Act. This NSSF-supported law protects the privacy and sensitive financial information of people purchasing firearms and ammunition in the Peach State. With Georgia, there are now 14 states with laws that protect the Second Amendment financial privacy of their citizens. The law prohibits financial institutions from requiring the use of a firearm code, also known as a Merchant Category Code (MCC), from being assigned to firearm and ammunition purchases at retail when using a credit card. The law also forbids discriminating against a firearm retailer as a result of the assigned or non-assignment of a firearm code and disclosing the protected financial information. Additionally, the law prohibits keeping or causing to be kept any list, record or registry of private firearm ownership. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/546315-2/ . 1

In macro and micro instances, we have way more guns then in the 1980s but much less gun murders then at that time. In my neighborhood we have more guns then people but not one gun death, or even injury in the 20+ years I have lived there. The truly connected stat is Democrat run areas and murders. The only more direct link is fatherless homes and criminals in general. 1
