Does any Bills Player Get a Extension Before the Deadline?

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the whole false deadline thing and commenting on CJ alone...

If we had Chan running this offense, I'd extend CJ in a heartbeat... he's a guy that makes it work.

However, in Hackett's offense, which is a bit more of a power game, CJ probably isn't worth it. We'll see how this year goes, considering he was injured much of last year. Maybe Hackett will plan for him better, maybe CJ will be healthy, maybe.... etc.

Eliminating CJ's rolling year from consideration...

His first full year in Chan's system he struggled to produce, then in year two we really saw what he was capable of.

Now rolling into year two under this staff, I hope to see the CJ of '12... I understand it's a totally different style, but maybe he just never had that warm n fuzzy...

After all, he's a slow learner... Probably still trying to get signed into that iPad...

I think they brought in brown as depth at RB. You'll all want Spiller once he lights it up this year, And when Brown "Fumbles" his opportunity!

To be fair, Brown's fumble problems were during his rookie year. In his second year, he did a much better job of holding onto the ball.

I can absolutely see CJ getting extended. The contracts of receivers, pass rushers and QB's has scared us a little. Reggie Bush signed a 4 year $16M in 2013. This will undoubtedly be one of the comps out there (also Knowshon's 1 year $3M offer). If I were the Bills I would absolutely be trying to lock CJ up this off season in this neighborhood. There is ZERO value for RBs in free agency. He is not going to get anywhere near the money that Jerry Hughes will this offseason. In fact, I will be surprised if CJ's entire contract matches Hughes' guaranteed money. Sign CJ for 4 years and $18M.

If anyone gets one it would probably be Jerry Hughes; he and Spiller and the only major unrestricted FAs after this year, and I think they want to see Spiller perform better before he gets a new contract (especially now that they have 2 backs under contract for next season).

It would be best to give Hughes a contract extension. If he has another big year, it will be very difficult to keep him as I'm sure he will go to the highest bidder.
