ganesh Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The Panthers would be wise to get him, all they have are a bunch of journeymen at WR. And that is why it would have made sense to send Stevie Johnson to Carolina and got a better pick than what we got from the 49ers.
Mark Vader Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 And that is why it would have made sense to send Stevie Johnson to Carolina and got a better pick than what we got from the 49ers. Interesting theory. Alas, we'll never know.
truth on hold Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Interesting theory. Alas, we'll never know. why wouldnt they have dealt him to the team with the best offer?
YoloinOhio Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk 1m Report: Texans have no intentions to trade Andre Johnson http://wp.me/p14QSB-9w3S And that is why it would have made sense to send Stevie Johnson to Carolina and got a better pick than what we got from the 49ers. How do you know the Panthers were offering a better pick?
Mark Vader Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk 1m Report: Texans have no intentions to trade Andre Johnson http://wp.me/p14QSB-9w3S Oh, I'm sure he'll love to hear that.
Doc Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Doubtful they trade him in the AFC. Much less to the Pats, who won't offer a high pick.
CountryCletus Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Buffalo is pursuing a trade for Johnson and Arian Foster... word on the street we are offering Sammy and Spiller... [end sarcasm]
aristocrat Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hes a beast still. If they could get a first they shoukd make the deal
CountryCletus Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 They aren't gonna get squat for him... Always hurt and have a 15 or 16m cap hit next year...
Doc Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 They aren't gonna get squat for him... Always hurt and have a 15 or 16m cap hit next year... Disagree. He's been pretty durable and just came off a healthy season in which he caught 109 passes for 1,407 yards and 5 TDs, from some pretty bad QB's. He's also been a clean player off the field and a professional on it. I agree thought that he cap hit will make it very hard for them to trade him.

He still isn't worth a 1st round pick at this point in his career, not to mention next years cap number
Doc Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Ok, he was relatively healthy last year... He still isn't worth a 1st round pick at this point in his career, not to mention next years cap number His cap number for another team would be just $6.5M and he's willing to lower it. For the Texans it's huge because of signing bonuses and that's the main reason he probably won't get traded. As for a 1st rounder, I agree that no one will give one up.

The above list is from Sport Trac which keeps track of current cap space in different leagues. The far right column is current cap space. From the rest of the list, which teams are a playoff contenders. Not that I want it to happen, but you could see the Jets, Bengals, or Colts. The Jets could use another weapon at WR. That would improve their passing attack as they would have AJ and Decker. The Bengals could have AJ Green and AJ. Wow, that would be a nice fit for them. I seriously doubt any if these teams would give up high draft picks for a 33 yr old WR, unless they felt they were so close to get to the SB, this one piece could help them for three years. I don't think he's going anywhere.
CountryCletus Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 mobile.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/andre-johnson/ How does his cap hit vary depending on team? Sorry, maybe I am clueless about it, but I was under the impression that cap hit is cap hit...
Doc Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 mobile.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/andre-johnson/ How does his cap hit vary depending on team? Sorry, maybe I am clueless about it, but I was under the impression that cap hit is cap hit... Cap hit takes into account salary plus amortized signing bonus, roster bonus, workout bonus, etc. When a player gets traded, any money paid previously, like signing bonus or workout bonus, gets charged to previous team's cap, and only new money going forward counts towards the new team's cap hit.

Why thank you sir... And here I thought I knew everything- lol... It makes total sense though....
