We have at our disposal enough clean energy resources to become a net exporter. We can also boost our economy by returning manufacturing to our shores by utilizing cheap energy. What do we do instead? Use up rich farmland to produce ethanol that harms small engines and causes less fuel efficiency elsewhere than it improves emissions. Every dollar spent on biofuels here in this country has been wasted. On top of that we've caused food to become more expensive. If we became energy independent we could avoid some of the costly conflicts in the middle east and exert much more influence around the world. Instead we do things like drag our feet on the Keystone Pipeline in order to placate a big donor like Warren Buffet who ships oil by train.
