New threads team sale related - mods are giving broad latitude

Recommended Posts

Folks - by my count 20% of the initial couple of pages of threads are team sale related. Given the significance of the topic to Bills fans and the fact that this is the quiet period of the offseason the mods have been largely refraining from shutting them down as duplicates.

However, before starting any new ones please make sure the issue(s) are not already included in another thread. For example just because a news article about some new wrinkle comes out does not automatically mean a new thread has to be started to discuss it.

As has been the practice the mods will lock threads they deem to be duplicative and not merge them. As we get closer to camp and the start of season the mods will be more prone to take action so the board is not clogged up. You may also better your chances of not having the thread locked if you are descriptive in the title and actively participate in the thread to keep it on topic relative to the title.

Just a heads up.

Most of the ones today were sarcastic responses to one.

Well almost, they were sarcastic responses to a thread that I locked. It was more than evident both by replies within the thread locked and then the sarcastic follow on new threads that people were expressing frustration with the situation.

I for one find it boring that the same people rehash the same opinions over and over again. I think the multiple treads about the same conversation gets old after a while. To the point that I don't even click on them after a while. You will always have some people that are optimistic and you will always some people that are pessimistic. But they don't have there own thread right?

You ask the question in the form of a broad judgement. It is hard to answer it in that way. For me it often comes down to this:

- does the OP really point to something new that while possibly related is not covered in another thread.

- are people responding in a way that indicates they understand and agree there is something novel in the thread that stands on its own merit

- Is the thread have a title that helps people to understand its topic vs another related thread that is already posted

- is the OP a participant in the thread and keeping it on track

Don't underestimate the value of the last two. There are people who start threads just for the sake of starting threads. Often they don't even add anything to what they started. These threads get shut down.

Btw I should add: long time board members get more latitude. Also, all of what is written here is from my perspective and another mod may disagree in part or in whole.

You say that all the time...
