Rubes
My stepfather was in the British Navy during D-day, and drove one of the landing crafts at Juno beach. We were set to go to the 70th reunion in Normandy (right now), but he fell last September, broke his hip, and ended up passing away shortly thereafter. He was 92. He would have really liked that. KD in CA
D-Day Veteran Sneaks Out of His Nursing Home, Goes to France . That's great. Nursing home "wouldn't let him go"? They should have been buying him a ticket to go.

HamSandwhich
I've had it on "in the background" for several hours. It really is worth hearing. Me too, I've been through the top 4 of them already. It's really interesting to hear how the news casts were done back then, and really eerie to think that during these broadcasts, our soldiers were over there fighting for their country, and many of them paid with their lives. Rest in peace and dignitiy, those who made the ultimate sacrifice. You will not be forgotten.
/dev/null
Nursing home "wouldn't let him go"? They should have been buying him a ticket to go. In 1944 there were "nursing homes" across Europe that wouldn't let people leave too. This guy was involved in beating both of them

HamSandwhich
Still listening to these radio programs. It's amazing how talented the radio announcers were back then at painting a picture of what's going on. I feel like I'm right there when I hear them tell the story.
