\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I don't know what happened on June 6, 1941, but I am grateful for June 6, 1944.
KD in CA Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I don't know what happened on June 6, 1941, but I am grateful for June 6, 1944. This day in WW2 history sez: Hitler issued the Commissar Order in advance of the invasion of the USSR.
BringBackFergy Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 CBS Radio complete broadcast day 6/6/1944 That is very cool!! Thanks for that link. I had no idea this was out there. Great for kids to listen to.
Rubes Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 My stepfather was in the British Navy during D-day, and drove one of the landing crafts at Juno beach. We were set to go to the 70th reunion in Normandy (right now), but he fell last September, broke his hip, and ended up passing away shortly thereafter. He was 92. He would have really liked that.

B-Man Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 D-Day Veteran Sneaks Out of His Nursing Home, Goes to France .
Mark Vader Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 God Bless those who lost their lives and to those who survived. Let us never forget these brave men and boys, for what they did on this day.
KD in CA Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 D-Day Veteran Sneaks Out of His Nursing Home, Goes to France . That's great. Nursing home "wouldn't let him go"? They should have been buying him a ticket to go.
HamSandwhich Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 CBS Radio complete broadcast day 6/6/1944 This is amazing. Thanks for that!
Beerball Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 This is amazing. Thanks for that! I've had it on "in the background" for several hours. It really is worth hearing.
HamSandwhich Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I've had it on "in the background" for several hours. It really is worth hearing. Me too, I've been through the top 4 of them already. It's really interesting to hear how the news casts were done back then, and really eerie to think that during these broadcasts, our soldiers were over there fighting for their country, and many of them paid with their lives. Rest in peace and dignitiy, those who made the ultimate sacrifice. You will not be forgotten.
/dev/null Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Nursing home "wouldn't let him go"? They should have been buying him a ticket to go. In 1944 there were "nursing homes" across Europe that wouldn't let people leave too. This guy was involved in beating both of them
dib Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Those boys gave us the freedom we enjoy today. I Was signing a document yesterday and almost wrote June 6, 1944
HamSandwhich Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Still listening to these radio programs. It's amazing how talented the radio announcers were back then at painting a picture of what's going on. I feel like I'm right there when I hear them tell the story.
