Now the month of June starts and will continue to add to the action frenzy. For those who are getting exhausted by all the CGI, there will be some high profile alternatives that will focus on comedy, drama and family. Once again sequels lead the way this month. The most high profile of them now adds a fourth movie into a series that has grossed over 1 billion dollars domestically alone. The robots in disguise are back, as Paramount Pictures presents, "Transformers: Age of Extinction". An automobile mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down the Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them. This movie has new Transformers, a new cast, but unfortunately the same director. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci & Kelsey Grammer. Dreamworks & 20th Century Fox, reunite Hiccup & Toothless in the long awaited "How To Train Your Dragon 2". When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Starring the voices of Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig & Djimon Honsou. Channing Tatum & Jonah Hill are back in "22 Jump Street", get it? After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. Clint Eastwood directs the musical "Jersey Boys". The story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons. This is possibly the riskiest project of the summer. Adapting a popular broadway musical to the big screen, is not always an instant money maker. Throw in a cast headlined by a bunch of unknowns, an accomplished director who is known more for heavy drama, and a singing Christopher Walken; you end up with a big disaster or sheer brilliance. Starring John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza & Christopher Walken. Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt star in "Edge of Tomorrow". An officer finds himself caught in a time loop in a war with an alien race. His skills increase as he faces the same brutal combat scenarios, and his union with a Special Forces warrior gets him closer and closer to defeating the enemy. Also starring Bill Paxton & Brendan Gleeson. Guy Pearce & Robert Pattinson star in "The Rover". 10 years after a global economic collapse, a hardened, ruthless ex-soldier tracks down the men who stole his only possession. As he travels through the lawless Australian outback, he takes a damaged young man as his unwitting accomplice. Chris Evans stars in "Snowpiercer". In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off all life on the planet except for a lucky few that boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system evolves. Also starring Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton & Ed Harris. Shailene Woodley & Ansel Elgort star in "The Fault In Our Stars". Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. The only movie I really care about is "How To Train Your Dragon 2". Guy Pearce is a top notch actor, so I will probably check out "The Rover", and I may see Transformers out of obligation, even though I hate what Michael Bay has done to that property. swnybillsfan Posted June 9, 2014 Share Posted June 9, 2014 i have a soft spot for the transformers since i grew up with the toys and the cartoon. loved how to train your dragon so i am really looking forward to the sequel. 21 jumpstreet for me came right after the transformers, so this has nostalgic value as well, but i really enjoyed the 21 jumpstreet of a few years ago. guy peirce is one of my favorite actors because of movies like Memento, the Count of monte cristo and of course Ravenous, but he also seems to pick a clucnker from time to time. Confidential" as well. i have only seen bits and peices of L.A. Confidential, but i love guy pierce in everything i have seen him in...and i am a russel crowe fan as well. I was waiting for the song too. The Transformers series has great action and killer special effects. What it severely lacks is an interesting storyline, not to mention fully fleshed out Transformers characters. I don't want just great special effects, I want it to be good science fiction as well. Transformers can be done seriously and still keep a certain level of fun. Watch the original "Transformers: The Movie" and the spin off series "Beast Wars". You'll see that within the right hands, it can be done in a great way. But eventually everything gets re-made in Hollywood. Mark Vader Posted July 2, 2014 Author Share Posted July 2, 2014 Saw "Transformers: Age of Extinction", and it's pretty much more of the same stuff. The good news is that the storyline is better than in the previous 2 films, and there is no more Shia LaBeouf or John Turturro or the actors who played Spike's parents. Unfortunately we are reminded that Michael Bay is the director. There is nothing that can't be destroyed in an explosion, and half the movie is in slow motion. Bay also attempts to prove that he can do what James Cameron does, by making the movie as long and drawn out more than it needs to be. This movie is nearly 3 hours long. As for the acting, it's all typical. Mark Wahlberg plays his tough guy role, Nicola Peltz has legs & Jack Reynor is just there. Kelsey Grammer plays a good heavy as does Stanley Tucci, but boy he does a lot of screaming and yelling in the final 45 minutes. Once again the Autobots are given distinct, albeit annoying, personalities. Whereas the Decepticons are all baseless, mindless drones. Although sometimes you are left wondering who the bigger threat is. The "comedy" is , and once again we are focused a lot more on the humans peril than the Transformers. Although, there is a good subplot involving visits from other Transformers. Don't get me wrong, the movie is entertaining and the action is great, but this is not that much of a step up from the last film. The story itself is completely engaging, but by the time you realize how many hits Frankie Valli had, with and without the Four Seasons, the show has you gripped. I haven't seen the movie and still don't plan on it. You aren't missing much, and I don't know why I keep punishing myself by continuing to see this franchise when I know I will be disappointed. I know that as a real Transformers fan, I am not the target audience. It's amazing how Bay continues to dumb down this series. What I really hate is how they have handled Megatron. They make him out to be an incompetent buffoon of a leader, when actually the opposite is correct. They have turned one of the most bad-ass villains ever, into a wimp. That is insulting. Last night my 9-year-old son and I were watching "Dark of the Moon." About an hour in he asks, "What's your least favorite movie ever?" I told him, "Titanic. What about you?" He says, "This. Jamie Bell and Octavia Spencer were really good but Chris Evans was unbelievable. I've always thought he was good but with every new role he takes he just keeps putting himself into the truly elite category. I will definitely be buying this one when available.
