K. Ladler worth keeping an eye on.

Recommended Posts

Kenny Ladler should have been drafted by all rights. Many scouts had him being drafted in R5 or R6. He ran a slow 40 time for a safety (in the 4.70s) at the combine, which turned teams off. However, he's capable of running the 40 in 4.55 sec., which is much more respectful for a safety.

Ladler is very athletic and has good ball skills as the video link below illustrates. He has the best chance to make the Bills roster in my opinion from the group of UDFAs that the Bills have signed this year thus far.

Just like I thought N. Robey had a legitimate shot to make the Bills' final roster last year, I think that Ladler too is good enough to make it.

When you consider that the only legit safeties on the roster include A. Williams/Searcy/D. Williams/Meeks, his odds seem pretty good. I think the first three listed are safe, but I think that Ladler could beat out Meeks when it comes right down to it.

I agree with everything you said EXCEPT I don't think Searcy is a sure thing to make the roster. Not saying Searcy won't make the roster, but, I think it is far from determined already. Ladler could be a very good player for us. I do think he will make the roster. Also, Ladler thinks he will make our roster and that is why he signed in Buffalo.

He looked football quick to me in those highlights. Speed is sometimes an overrated aspect of a players actual abilities. I'll take a smart hard nosed football player that's always around the ball and in the play, than a faster kids that is clueless half the time.

I like that he attacks the ball and goes for the TO. That was one of Byrd's strengths. He looks small but a solid player. He's got a long way to go to make the roster tho

For me, the. Second safety position is the biggest question mark on the team right now. They need someone better than average to pair wit h AW.

After seeing the highlights, I didn't see anything that really sticks out other than he's willing to take on runners. Most of his picks were poorly thrown balls. If he doesn't have nfl speed, he won't cut it.

That seems too hard for me to believe. Searcy is one of the surest bets we have. I am not sure the coaches would trust guys like Duke Williams, Meeks, or Ladler over the experience that Searcy brings to the table.

I have hopes for this kid. He has good talent to develop and is football smart .

Keep an eye on him.

Good OP CoC and nice linky

Searcy easily makes the team by the way

haha; I agree! It's funny--I remember Searcy making some terrible rookie mistakes for a few years, and now has developed into a solid, steady option. I don't love him as a starter, but I think he is a great back-up, and I feel comfortable with him back there when he is forced into a starter's role.

JR i just need to think of starter in another way.

Searcy is more suited to the short game. Underneath him stuff. He has very good recognition skills and tackles very well. But his range is limited. D Williams can make up alot of field ona missed read up front , can hit and also can tackle.

Can you call them both starters ? No you cant have two SS listed . So I say Searcy is the starter because he should be in on first down to begin the season. And then in some games

i expect Duke, potentially anyways could get more reps .

Any one like to counter ?

I just think after last year and not a moment before ,Searcy earned it . being named starter that is. Thanks JR

Love the highlights. He looks like a lengthy player with a lot of upper body strength. Seems to hit pretty hard. Reminds me of that kid in Seattle actually. This kid could be good for sure. Watch how low he gets on his hits/tackles. Very impressive.

Searcy going to make the team. He's got great instincts and is now one of the more veteran safeties that we have. I see him as more of a SS than a FS because of his size.

C. Graham will determine who the starting safeties are this year. If he is moved to safety then I expect him to start. In that case I would expect A. Williams to start at SS and Graham to start at FS. Williams is big enough and athletic enough to start at either safety position.

If Graham stays at CB, then I would expect Searcy to start at SS and A. Williams to start at FS.

I prefer the former scenario because we need to put our best players on the field and Graham is one of those players.

I think we need to watch to see how Robey compares to Graham in covering the slot WR. If they're comparable then I think Graham could shift to FS. if not, then Graham could be the thrid CB covering the slot.

Since so many teams start with three WRs, starting three CBs and two safeties is pretty commonplace and the third CB needs to have starting caliber ability.

I still think Searcy still has upside, but the guy has some play-making abilities.... I think he makes the team...I agree, he seems more a SS, but as we should all know by now, those defensive secondary positions are, perhaps, behind only QB as the toughest to learn coming from college to the pros.

Searcy will get better in the Schwartz defense. The zones used and the open field will be to his strength, similar to what we saw develop over the 2013 season. He is above adequate in his ability

For once I am confused how we have so much talent in the backfield yet we do not. Seattle has a good backfield. We have a decent backfield.

I love Searcy the physical football player.......I hate how he gets abused in coverage......

I still say Duke Preston is gonna step up and make all this a non issue

duke Williams? Or is there a duke preston I am unaware of....
