boyst Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 So, how is everyone fairing this year on their first or second trip to the market this year? I am a bit late starting this but that is just fine, because by the looks of things around here there isn't much going on, yet. Strawberry farms here, for example, took a big hit with the extremely cold and wet winter with a lot of late freezing temps and frost. Harsh weather throughout the Southeast and entire country likely has caused a lot of disappointment with shoppers this year. Fruit trees this year haven't been effected much around here and I hope that we are going to have some good fruit available throughout the area. The only thing available around here that is showing up are the leafy greens - kale, spinach - and some other things people were smart enough to branch out and grow; broccoli, cauliflower, and other neat stuff. With the good rainfall we've had and the desirable temperatures the rest of the harvests should be much better. So, again, how'r all ya'll doing this year?
Johnny Hammersticks Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Great farmers market here in central Vermont. Produce isn't spectacular right now, but there is a pretty good selection of leafy greens, mushrooms, and potatos. Great local bakeries, fresh herbs, jams, and of course maple syrup. Always a couple of stands with beef, lamb, free-range chickens and eggs. Lots of local cheese makers, wineries (not that great), and a guy who distills quality rye bourbon. Love the farmers market.
BuffaloBud Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Haven't been to mine here in OH yet, but I'm getting radishes, spinach, a few peas out of my own garden.
The Poojer Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 went this weekend and got pepper seedlings, so now to grow my carolina reapers, moruga & trinidad scorpions, peach ghost and 7 pot...mmmmmmmm
