B-Man
Here’s the tweet from Bob Bergdahl’s account, which was published May 28 and deleted Saturday night (at the time of publication the deletion of the tweet has not been acknowledged on the account Many obviously didn’t think that tweet was a good idea, and apparently neither did the @BobBergdahl account, or perhaps an outside adviser. Tiberius
I never toe a party line oh stop! TakeYouToTasker
Tell that to John Poindexter ... And the CIA probably put chips in these morons so they will simply lead us to more terrorists. Win win ... And how were terrorists so different in 1985? ... You've outdone yourself.
IDBillzFan
Thank God this vet was released. For a minute there I was afraid we were going to have to keep talking about the ones who keep committing suicide because the VA has been delaying their visits. 3rdnlng
Negotiating, it depends. But giving them weapons is totally another and much more serious issue. Should the U.S. give weapons to Al Quaeda and support them in their struggles?
3rdnlng
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10868673/Bowe-Bergdahl-a-darker-story-behind-the-release-of-Americas-last-prisoner-of-war.html But behind the scenes of small town celebration is a darker and more complicated story about a young soldier who allegedly abandoned his post after growing disillusioned with America's wars and the potentially illegal deal struck by the White House to free him. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 full of idealistic conviction that he and his comrades could push back the Taliban and improve life in the long-subjugated country. But hopefulness soon gave way to despair after his unit began to take casualties and he saw how US troops treated the Afghans they were supposed to be saving. "These people need help, yet what they get is the most conceited country in the world telling them that they are nothing and that they are stupid," he wrote in an email to his parents on June 27, 2009. Three days later, according to Rolling Stone, the 23-year-old soldier simply walked off his base in Patika province, carrying a knife, his diary and a small camera. He was captured almost immediately and - despite a frantic search by US troops, drones and helicopters - smuggled into Pakistan by Taliban fighters. A Pakistani militant commander told AFP that Sgt Bergdahl engaged with his with captors, teaching them how to play badminton and inviting them to celebrate Easter and Christmas with them. 3rdnlng
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/72037/disgusting-bowe-bergdahls-dad-makes-islamic-declaration-after-sons-release-calls-for-release-of-all-gitmo-terrorists-did-bergdahl-convert-to-islam/ Really? Five killer masterminds with close ties to Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden are being released to plan the murders of more Americans, just as they’ve already killed many Americans–Americans who will never be released alive to freedom like Bergdahl, because they are now six feet under. And this man has the gall to invoke Islam and an Islamic saying that is specifically meant to declare that allah–the Islamic god–is the supreme god? There is something very wrong with that. We are fighting an enemy that is at war with us, an enemy that held this man’s son in captivity for five years in the name of their deadly religion. And, apparently, it is not bad enough that five of the worst murderous terrorists-in-chief were released so his son could be free. He must also make declarations proclaiming the supremacy of the terrorists’ religion and god. And, then, he has the chutzpah to say the other Gitmo terrorists who murdered other Americans, unlike his son who is alive and free, should be released. Screw him. Someone needs to drink a giant glass of STFU juice. I wonder: did Bob Bergdahl always have that silly hipster/Outlaw Bikers beard or did he grow it out of deference to Islam, Muslims, and his son’s Taliban former captors? drinkTHEkoolaid
Negotiating, it depends. But giving them weapons is totally another and much more serious issue. like....giving weapons to Libyan/Syrian freedom fighters...err terrorists that were amazingly enough used against us to kill 4 brave Americans?? That kind of funny? Is that real? If this is not a fake account its extremely disturbing. So we traded 5 senior Taliban leaders for a deserter. Great. Honestly if its true this guy was a deserter they should throw the UCMJ at him. It will never happen but it damn well should. I feel like we just traded up for sammy Watkins and come to find out sammy wants to play for a different team.....not good. Deranged Rhino
This thread became real funny real fast. This story though should be interesting for the next few months to come. It's late, and I'm speculating under the influence of insomnia, but if this desertion story turns out to be accurate (and there's every reason to believe it is from what I've seen) then you'd have to assume the Chiefs -- or someone high up the chain of command -- knew. If you can buy that, then at some point during the negotiations the Chiefs (or whoever knew the skinny) should have made that element known. Or, maybe they didn't. Maybe they didn't agree with the direction the negotiation was heading. Maybe, when they saw that the die was cast so to speak, they simply gave the administration enough rope to trip once again over their own dicks. The flip side, which would be the ultimate Fox News wet dream, is if Obama (in the general sense of the office) was briefed and aware of the desertion yet went through with it anyway. The cherry on top would be if the NDA that the soldiers were forced to sign about the desertion were traced back to the Oval Office. Then we got a premeditated coverup / press manipulation that's so campy it's straight from an episode of 24. Being able to pin this kind of story on him with righteous conviction might be the tipping point in the inevitable swing of the pendulum back towards the center. Of course that's probably nothing more than late night musings from a bored man, but I found it interesting to consider. Either way, this is should be a whale of a news cycle... Fasten your seat belts.
truth on hold
Desertion doesn't mean anything. There was an American being held hostage and we needed to try and get him released
Deranged Rhino
Desertion doesn't mean anything. There was an American being held hostage and we needed to try and get him released Not at the expense of 5 high value prisoners. Or maybe it doesn't make a difference, I really haven't come to my own conclusion yet but it's a thornier thicket with this thrown into the mix. Guys on the ground fight for each other, no one else. If his own troops are this outraged, guys who knew him better than they know their wives, I'm at least going to listen.
