meazza Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 He's working for Al-Qaeda. Someone get Claire Danes on this!
3rdnlng Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Anyone catch at the end of the article that there is speculation that he may have left his unit voluntarily? Gigantic cheap shot without something to back it up.
DC Tom Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 That's one way to close Gitmo: let the Taliban know that they can kidnap Americans and trade them for inmates. Eventually, the camp will be empty. And, of course, he's a POW. The inmates at Gitmo aren't.

PTS Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Anyone catch at the end of the article that there is speculation that he may have left his unit voluntarily? Gigantic cheap shot without something to back it up. Actually, I just spent an hour or two reading posts from soldiers who were looking for him after he went missing. Some of them didn't mince words when they said they would kill him on sight for what he caused. Turns out many Americans died trying to find him after he walked off. This guy is a deserter at best and traitor at worst. This story is about to get real fracked up. Jay Carney picked a good time to quit.

The authors of the article should have included something to back up their speculation. Regardless, if our government knew that he was a deserter and traded 5 high level detainees for him under the premisethat we never leave our own behind, then once again they've got a major scandal on their hands.
KD in CA Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 He's working for Al-Qaeda. Someone get Claire Danes on this! That's crazy talk, let's elect him to Congress.
meazza Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 That's crazy talk, let's elect him to Congress. Surely an emotionally unstable CIA agent will figure him out in time.

No, they don't. Recovering an American "hero" is never going to be a scandal in more than a small minority of Americans' eyes.
FireChan Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Don't we not negotiate with terrorists? Or was that only foreign policy in "Air Force One?"

DC Tom Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Don't we not negotiate with terrorists? Or was that only foreign policy in "Air Force One?" It's not unheard of to negotiate with "terrorists" in an attempt to normalize relations with them. I would not be surprised at all if this is part of a process to "engage" the Taliban to involve them in the Afghani government. Not unlike how people decided that the solution to the problem of Somali warlords was to make that problem part of the solution.
IDBillzFan Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 No, they don't. Recovering an American "hero" is never going to be a scandal in more than a small minority of Americans' eyes. I wonder. This Jake Tapper piece is all over the place right now.
unbillievable Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Wow, This turned ugly. Is it okay to send a guy to prison after negotiating his return? (Though reports are surfacing that he may not even have been a prisoner but a collaborator)
