chris heff Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The City of Buffalo NY is in Western NY, not upstate NY. The name Buffalo has nothing to do with the American Bison. William Cody is said to have killed approximately 5000 American Bison, while a staggering number, hardly enough to have almost caused extinction.

Technically, anything not downstate (NYC, Long Island, and surrounding burbs) is considered upstate. Upstate = more general, Western = more specific.

Dirtbag Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) Can anyone summarize this? sure. ej was on some guy named dameshek's show. dameshek is a cool dude who likes buffalo but apparently refers to it as being in upstate new york instead of western ny. then an argument over whether or not one should get butt hurt over people calling the area "upstate" or "western" ensued. there was also a short history lesson about buffalo bill cody. you're welcome.
