Homey D. Clown Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Jon Bon Douchebag cannot buy the Bills given that he has the intention of moving the team. Jerry may want to read the lease agreement. The lease agreement is not worded like that. The lease simply makes any intention to move the team extremely difficult financially until 2019. Honestly, the lease is a strongly worded document with some sort of financial penalty built into it that protects the state's investment, and nothing more. Edited May 20, 2014 by Homey D. Clown
May Day 10 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 A guess a real question we should consider is: would the NFL consider preserving the Bills (provided a new stadium/equivalent) with the promise of a future Toronto expansion/relo in the next decade? Do they believe both teams could/would survive?
FLFan Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 It should not be a surprise to anyone that Jerry Jones would lead the charge on a conversation to move the Bills to Toronto. There is simply more money for everyone to be made there. It remains to be seen whether any bid from the Toronto group will be viable, what the stadium options will be, how they can manage the players and the CBA, etc. but they are certainly going to take a hard look, and the mouth from the south will lead the charge.
CodeMonkey Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) It's funny that the two articles written today from the Toronto papers, especially the Globe and Mail one, took a totally different perspective, with the G & M headline that Jones was lukewarm about the Bills moving to Toronto and using quotes about how the NFL likes the Bills in Buffalo. Hmmm... All that means is that the people writing these articles don't know any more than the rest of us. Jerrah and the other owners on the other hand could very well have some information. As it was from the time of Mr. Wilson's passing ... we will know when we know. Edited May 20, 2014 by CodeMonkey
TheFunPolice Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 it certainly sounds like he is setting the table for the Bills move to Toronto but is so close, nobody is losing a team defense. "I know this: personally I’m grateful for the great fans and support for NFL football that we have in Northern New York, and certainly as it is right now, they’re in the Toronto market area. " Oh that is definitely going to be the spin, and most non-Bills fans will buy it.
BRAWNDO Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Out of respect for Jerry Jones , once a New Bills Stadium is built in WNY, the inaugural event at the stadium should be a Jon Bovi Concert.
seq004 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 For someone who preached and sang about the working man and his struggles and civic pride in your community he sure comes off as a fake now.
Kirby Jackson Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 All that means is that the people writing these articles don't know any more than the rest of us. Jerrah and the other owners on the other hand could very well have some information. As it was from the time of Mr. Wilson's passing ... we will know when we know. Sounds like we know a lot more than Jerry and the other owners at this point. We are much more versed in the lease, the group selecting the buyer, the candidates, etc... The new stadium will need to be a part of this to get approval from the other owners but tht has probably been the case for 10+ years. It sounds like the state is well aware of this and ready to do what needa to be done. If the revenue is there to "grow the pie" it won't be an issue at all.
All_Pro_Bills Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I saw the Jerry Jones quotes in an ESPN article this morning. To me it came off as more or less 'politically correct' babbling and not an endorsement of anything one way or another. One wild a$$ assumption he's making in his comments is more people equates to more paying football fans. Demographically speaking, that is just not so simple. Normally this 'relocation' talk would set off alarm bells on this message board. Given there are only a few pages of discusison on Jerry's remarks shows how the level of anxiety among Bills fans here has diminished. At this point it appears chances of the team staying in WNY are greater than the chances of moving somewhere else with a lot of political and economic power lining up behind keeping the team in place.
AltoonaPaBillsFan Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 and sadly Jones is also a huge proponent for expanding the playoff format. If it isn't broke...don't fix it I say
jahbonas Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 And one thing the NFL hates is lawsuits - and they will get a ton thrown at them if an attempt to move is made. Also I would expect an attack at the NFL anti-trust status could be in play as well - the NFL wants none of this.

mattsox Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Jerruh is all that is wrong with pro football. That statement is the epitome of truth!

You really think the majority of the US congress is going to stand with Senator Chuck if he decides to grandstand and propose such a thing? You think the representatives from the other 31 NFL cities and wherever the team wants to move (assuming it is in the US) are going to fall on their swords for Senator Chuck and Buffalo NY? One thing you can count on with politicians, they will cover their wrinkled old asses every time.
papazoid Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Monday's comments from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones applied an unexpected twist to the topic of playoff expansion. Asked if the league needs the approval of the NFLPA to grow the field from 12 to 14 teams, Jones said, "Not to my knowledge." The league, per a source with knowledge of the situation, recognizes that the union will want one or more concessions (LIKE REDUCED POWER OF THE COMMISIONER) for something that the NFL believes the players already should want, an increased chance of getting to the Super Bowl. Throw in the fact that the money generated by expanded playoffs goes into the pot from which the salary cap is calculated should be more than enough, in the NFL's view, to get the union to agree to expanded playoffs without getting anything else. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/20/league-plans-to-walk-fine-line-with-union-on-playoff-expansion/ I think the NFLPA is going to block any and all changes to the CBA unless and until the league agrees to give up or reduce some of the commissioners power. Kirby Jackson Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If you really think we as Bills fans know more than one of the existing owners you are kidding yourself. They won't know much until they are presented with the pitches (which ultimately they don't decide). They vet and confirm owners but don't select them. They really have no say (or care about the lease). The only thing that matters to the other owners is the "size of the pie." The size of the pie is the shared revenue. This is primarily TV revenue but also ticket sales. Obviously, moving to a larger market increases the revenue generated from TV. That sounds to be about the extent of JJ's thinking. However, the provisions in the lease protect this team in WNY for the foreseeable future. It gives the new owner and the state time to get the ball rolling on the new stadium. It has put people trying to relocate the team at a distinct disadvantage. What it sounds like is that the state is prepared to step up and assist with the new stadium. In addition, they will threaten the antitrust exemption if necessary (Shumer in particular). Above anything else that is the last thing that the NFL wants. We have been following the progress of this much more than Jerry Jones to date.

Jones is one of the 32 owners of a multibillion dollar enterprise. All 32 of them know far more, and have people in their employ who also know far more, than any of us could ever hope to from reading websites, blogs, fan boards, links to lease documents, and journalist musings. It's just the nature of business.

What will Buffalo contribute to the league with a new stadium? What would Toronto contribute with a new stadium? What is the delta? Is that delta worth the risk of the ill will created amongst fans, threat of pulling the antitrust exemption, unknown of the Toronto market and the strength of owners looking to keep the team vs. the Toronto group? These are the factors that will be weighed in terms of whom each owner would want. At the end of the day though it is completely out of their hands. The only say that they have is to declare the owner selected by the 4 person panel as a worth candidate for NFL ownership. The people with the real information at this point are the candidates doing their due diligence. They are reviewing the lease, concession agreements, renewal rates, sponsorship deals on the table, current sponsorships, business plans, revenue projections, ticket sales, staff costs, tax breaks, etc...
26CornerBlitz Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 @MattSabuda Per report, #Bills generate more revenue than big markets SF & ATL. Also more than new stadium markets DET, CIN, AZ. #BuffaloBelongsNFL @WGRZ WNY native & #Packers CEO Mark Murphy: "I think the #Buffalo market is really important for the league." #Bills #NFL pic.twitter.com/Pz1DJXvnXv

I don't know if you had a chance to listen to WGR this morning but they had a "stadium analyst" on and the guy basically rattle off most of the things you are referring to. Also said if the stadium committee did their due diligence the team has no right to be in Buffalo and should be in Toronto regardless of the owner. Then I stopped listening because he was comparing the team now being worth ~1 billion and could be worth almost 1.5 in Toronto.
