Prickly Pete Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) All these negative comments...where are the posters that were FURIOUS that the Bills let him go, allowing the Jets to "maximize his potential"? Remember the weekly updates on his blooming career over in New York? I tried to pull one of the those threads up from the archives, but couldn't sift one out. There was some rich stuff in those posts. Edited May 15, 2014 by HoF Watkins

TDO'Kearney Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 We're all mad about those draft choices in 06 and 09 because for once the casual fan DID know better than the Bills front office. We were screaming for Ngata when they drafted Whitner in 06 and screaming for Orakpo when they took Maybin in 09.
NoSaint Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) He held out for his entire rookie training camp and was always behind the 8 ball. I think he juiced heavily before the combine and misrepresented himself because he could never naturally be the size he needed to be in order to play effectively in the NFL. For that reason, I don't wish him well at all. Scammer. Here's a quote from Aaron the bust: "Those years when I was struggling in Buffalo, I was really struggling," he said. "I was mad and pissed off, too. I was mad every single day. They wanted me to be something I wasn't" (yeah, a legitimate honest human being and team player...... how dare we......) Part of the problem was when he bulked up his speed fell apart. The only thing I can piece together is that we looked at his biggest measurements and coupled them with his best times even though he never actually accomplished those pairings All these negative comments...where are the posters that were FURIOUS that the Bills let him go, allowing the Jets to "maximize his potential"? That one sack where he was washed. 20 yards out of the play and I think even fell down before the tackle moved on to someone else but about 12 seconds into the play the qb still was holding the ball and AM got to him was sooooo ugly and somehow people pointed to it as a maybin highlight Edited May 15, 2014 by NoSaint
Sisyphean Bills Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 It's gotta be Aaron Curry. He was said to be the only "can't miss" prospect in that draft and the safest pick at any position. The Bills' Maybin pick was panned by many, but 100% of the talking heads & NFL people liked Curry. Curry without a doubt was the bigger bust. There were plenty of people, myself included, that saw Maybin for exactly what he turned out to be - a huge boom or bust gamble.
truth on hold Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I wonder if he had played strong safety all along if he would have made it?
Sisyphean Bills Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I know, I still wince at the absurdness of picking Maybin over Arakpo! Dick Jauron should be beaten every day as result of that decision. Unfortunately, heaping all the blame on Jauron still seems like the company line. Jauron was the fall guy for the Maybin pick, no doubt. He was the guy jettisoned overboard with the concrete life preserver and all, but he was part of a team of people who all ultimately signed off on that pick. Modrak set the Bills draft board and was completely gung-ho on Maybin. Modrak preached about how versatile Maybin was, that he could play both sides, play the run, had great quickness and agility, would have no trouble packing on muscle, etc. And let's not forget Russ Brandon was right there clapping his hands too. Yes, Jauron deserves his share of the blame, and it may even be a lot of it, but the Maybin gamble was an organizational mistake. That WAS some funny stojan at the time... Maybe he'll un-retire and play TE for someone...
