sodbuster Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Batavia wins! Bills home games will be filled with us fans from the 'Cuse! SU Orange football on Saturday. Buffalo Bills football on Sunday. There will be no better place to live in the USA for football!! Yeah, except for places that have good teams.
Coach Klein Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Interesting. Where in Batavia was he? North of the thruway, taking pictures of that giant field that's on the west side of 98.
sodbuster Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 North of the thruway, taking pictures of that giant field that's on the west side of 98. Across from the airport there?
Coach Klein Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Across from the airport there? Yeah. That field is enormous. They could put whatever they wanted there.
mrags Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I am going to take a different angle on the Batavia stadium site. Itcould be an interesting site for possible owners of the Bills, namley Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas. I know Jim's wife is from the Batavia area and Thurman Thomas is a part owner or involved with the Batavia Downs and the casino operations there. Maybe this ties the personal and business interests of the two to the Batavia talk. if I recall, Jim's wife is from Attica. But close enough. And yes, Thurman either owns, or is invilved someway with Batavia Downs and his new Bar/restaurant.

You don't think this highly experienced California firm will take factors like that into consideration, do you? Edited May 15, 2014 by BillnutinHouston
Kipers Hair Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I'm going to go out on a limb and say, there's no way the Bills setting up in Batavia...nice rumor, but nothing more thank 20 miles from the boarder is in play...and do you really think Erie or Niagara county is going to lose out to...what, Wyoming county? Stop it with this Batavia talk already...
stony Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Yeah. That field is enormous. They could put whatever they wanted there. Yup, right next to the Federal holding center. Prison and football, Goodell will love that.

Stop it with this Batavia talk already... It just sounds like all bases/possibilities are being covered and homework is being done. Before long, it will be narrowed down to 3-4 workable possibilities. IMO they will include an adjacent lot in OP, UB/Audubon, and 1 or 2 different downtown possibilities.
sodbuster Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Yup, right next to the Federal holding center. Prison and football, Goodell will love that. They're just trying to figure out a way that Hernandez can play against Buffalo. I assumed when Batavia was brought up they meant closer to Pembroke. I feel like that would make sense. I think that Batavia is just a little too far away. But that site is about 20 minutes from where I live now. Life would be so much easier.
Big Gun Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Batavia would work perfectly for those of us here in the 'Cuse. As a matter of fact, if the stadium was in Batavia, all of the games would sell out. The populations of Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse would easily fill the stadium. But Niagara Falls is the best spot for this team. Right, because Syracuse people are willing to travel 115 miles from Syracuse to Batavia but unwilling to travel from Syracuse to Buffalo or Niagara Falls and the extra 40-50 miles that would be. Why don't I believe that. I don't really see Batavia as a stadium option.
Mr Info Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) As alluring as Monday Quarterback Club meetings at The PolkPok-A-Dot sounds, no way in bloody hell will the new stadium be be built in Batavia. fixed...Always have one meal there every time I go home. Original owners celebrate 60th anniversary (2013): http://thebatavian.com/tags/pok-a-dot and http://www.thedailyn...1a4bcf887a.html I'm going to go out on a limb and say, there's no way the Bills setting up in Batavia...nice rumor, but nothing more thank 20 miles from the boarder is in play...and do you really think Erie or Niagara county is going to lose out to...what, Wyoming Genesee county? Stop it with this Batavia talk already... fixedI do not believe Batavia would be the best location for a stadium but I hope they are able to find similar acreage closer to Buffalo. An aside about Batavia as a the center of a Buffalo-Rochester MSA: http://smugtownbeaco...p?viewStory=882 "Alpina Yogurt already has a 40,000 square foot plant in Batavia, and a joint venture between Pepsico and a German yogurt concern is close behind. Once both facilities are running at full speed, Batavia will be the headquarters of the largest yogurt processing region in the nation." Edited May 16, 2014 by Mr Info
oman128 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I think the Bills should buy Coca Cola field and move the Bison's to the outer harbor.
mrags Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I think the Bills should buy Coca Cola field and move the Bison's to the outer harbor. could a stadium be built there big enough to hold 50,000-70,000 fans with parking? If so, not a bad idea at all.
PearlHowardman Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Right, because Syracuse people are willing to travel 115 miles from Syracuse to Batavia but unwilling to travel from Syracuse to Buffalo or Niagara Falls and the extra 40-50 miles that would be. Round trip that's 80-100 miles. About two hours drive time. What is the lake effect weather like in Batavia? That could always play to the Bills advantage come December and the playoffs.

Stop it with this Batavia talk already... It's Genesee county. Yes, thinking the same thing. Stadium next to Darien Lakes. There is talk of moving the Exit 50 tolls to Pembroke. They could revamp the exit to handle more cars. Round trip that's 80-100 miles. About two hours drive time. What is the lake effect weather like in Batavia? That could always play to the Bills advantage come December and the playoffs. No one is going to waste money on an open air stadium. There is no advantage playing in cold. It's a myth.

They might need to take down the building next to Coca cola field also. Then add a parking garage on the next block or add 2nd levels to existing lots. Lots of public transportation choices nearby, bus, Amtrak, metro. Edited May 17, 2014 by oman128
machine gun kelly Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Yup, right next to the Federal holding center. Prison and football, Goodell will love that. That was hilarious. I just had a belly laugh on that comment. Now it's unlikely the Bills with a state of the art stadium would ever get a superbowl, but if in Batavia, it would absolutely never have a chance. By Niagara Falls, they could make the argument and a coalition between Ontario and Buffalo could try to make it attractive. I have nothing against Batavia and it's possible they would draw more fans into the stadium from Yracuse, and definitely Rochester. This would be at the expense of Canadian fans. My guess is the NFL covets Canadian fans more, hence they would influence NYS, and the next owner to place in Niagara Falls. As far as the lack of infrastructure for roads, etc would be handled by the state funneling more funds for improvements in the infrastructure. I don't care either way as I live in FL. One town over another will benefit from the stadium. What we really need though is a retractable roof stadium so we can make decisions when we want open and when not. Seattle was smart as they constructed their stadium for the noise benefit. We should do the same and we can choose when to use the elements in our favor. Also to keep December attendance up, we can also use as well.

But Niagara Falls is the best spot for this team. from that perspective maybe they would all sell out. But where do out of towners stay? Yeah lets showcase craphole batavia when we have a waterfront and a monster water fall. Sure lets devastate Buffalo some more and not give the business owners an opportunity to make money on game day. Sure lets give all the tax revenue to Gennessee County. These are just a few quick things off the top of my head. They may look at Batavia but the stadium wont end up there. If I had to bet, its going to end up on the shores of lake erie. Erie county politics and commerce will dictate this. Edited May 17, 2014 by billsfan_34
Coach Klein Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Yup, right next to the Federal holding center. Prison and football, Goodell will love that. Just passing along what I saw. That's the location that they're talking about if they were to go the Batavia route. I doubt they would ever put it there (especially with the holding center) but it definitely has enough acreage.
