Now you're just winging it. I'll follow you down the rabbit hole a little further. I've read up on this, and if you take the politics out of it, here -- again -- is what I know:

A terrorist group in Nigeria has taken almost 300 girls captive. Everybody wants the girls to come home. The terrorists are saying they'll release some girls if some of their brothers in arms are released from prison. The only way we have to save these girls is, apparently, by holding up a sign.

Enlighten us. Show us the truth. What is so very clear that only you, apparently, can see it? Tell us...what are we missing and how are the hashtags going to save the day?

I'm not even trying to be vague... Your just wrong about who the audience for the tweets is. It's not to the kidnappers.

If you want the answer simply look up the daily show yesterday and you will have your answer.

Did they do a segment? I have to check that out.

If not the kidnappers it must be at those who are REALLY to blame:

Netanyahu and the Coke brothers.

Amiright?

And you are actually defining "being vague" in case you were wondering.

Oh, enlighten us Wise One for we seek your knowledge (even though I'm still waiting for the proof that Cliven Bundy claimed there was no federal government). Your smugness is out done only by your superiority complex.

There isn't any question about the intended audience. The audience is the mainstream media and the tens of millions of lemmings with functional ADD who populate our country and mindlessly swallow whatever they are told. It's easy, free PR for people who earn their living as celebrities (which sadly, include the occupants of the White House). And because easy, free PR has a very short shelf life, it will all be quickly forgotten as soon as the next terrorist strike, airplane crash, gay football player, racist sports team owner, stolen Iranian election, shark attack, etc. pops up and the same people will move on to hashtag their new 'outrage'.

If you are suggesting that a 'twitter movement' might have the benefit of spurring US government action to help these girls, that is about the most pathetic, damning statement anyone could make about a Presidential Administration.

Ooooooh, suddenly it all makes perfect sense now. They're not tweeting to the kidnappers! They're tweeting to the world! And by tweeting to the world, their collective voices, united as one, are going to...umm..well, together they're going to,..uhhh...

Nope. Everyone still looks stupid as hell.

Is the audience the 300,000 children held as sex slaves right here in the US? WTH?? Why are we all of a sudden concerned about 300??

I realize that now, was posting on the run.

There's an easy solution to your waiting: DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. It's been posted in that thread, many, many, times. It's there for you if you're willing to look. Your ineptitude is only outdone by your stubbornness.

Based on all the misinformed posts here, there certainly is a question.

The audience is Goodluck Johnathan and the leaders of Nigeria who, in the days and weeks after the abduction did nothing and actively tried to brush off the incident. And in the days since this whole outburst went viral, Nigeria has opened its doors to international military cooperation to help find the missing girls...

Again, if you try to look at something without politics in mind first you might have a better chance at understanding what's actually going on. And I say this as a guy who's clearly having fun with this thread -- but it is hilariously ironic how so many of you on here are bashing the power of social media ON A WEB SITE.

To be fair, I don't think any of us believe we're wielding any sort of power in posting.

Are you sure that's a universal sentiment around here? Have you read Gatorman's posts?

I thought HBO renewed it for another season? Is there that big of following that they have a #hashtag? It did well in its first few seasons.

The only one making a difference here is me. And that's because I point out when people are being idiots, and encourage them to change.

You idiot.

Why is she holding a sign saying "Don't Stop The Blame Game"?

I'm not sure how you think the explanation above keeps all the people holding signs from looking stupid today.

Actually makes them look more stupid, in my opinion.

I mean, the White House is engaging the leader of Nigeria by tweeting pictures of people holding up hashtag signs? How on earth is that NOT idiotic?

Because................it gives the Obama administration the appearance of addressing the issue.........

while in reality they are avoiding any actual action.

Wow, you really hate black people.

All kidding aside, Obama's twitter account is run by his campaign, Organzing for America, not his office. Still massively idiotic, but in a different way.

You mean besides the fact that the protests actually had an impact on the situation by shaming Johnathan into asking for international help? You might dismiss the impact the protests had but the results speak for themselves. Right now there are foreign military personnel and equipment on the ground in Nigera searching for these girls -- less than 4 days after the issue went viral. That's FAST and impactful.

The protests got the Nigerian leadership moving on the issue in just a few days -- prior to that, they weren't doing ANYTHING to remedy the situation. Would you tell one of those mothers today that people holding up that sign are stupid for doing so? Of course you wouldn't.

Look, I'm not saying everyone holding up a sign knows the intricacies of the situation, or that hashtag activism by itself is powerful, but to deny that it's a tool -- one that has been used effectively in this situation so far -- is to be out of touch with the modern world. If you need examples of the power of social media look at the Arab Spring, Donald Sterling, Cliven Bundy -- hell look at the coming ownership change of the Bills.

You're right. This is the first time in the history of first ladies that one has taken an activist stand on an issue...

Impossible to imagine that you're still missing the point.

But hey...I'll remember all of this the next time you suggest people pressing the government to find out who killed the Benghazi Four are just trying to create a scandal where none exists.

Explain to me your point. I'll listen. Because your second point is not what I'm saying at all.
