Just purely out of curiosity, why are these misfortunate, abducted school girls 'our girls?'

Have these people claiming them ever given any money or aid to them in the past? Or are the hashtags the extent of their charity and their aid?

Again, just curious.

Rhetorical ?

Our leaders were raised on symbolism.............

"We are the world, we are the children "

"We are the ones who make a brighter day "

Let me know when they start to discuss the reasons that the kidnappers are doing this...........and what religion they are "following"

Because they represent the slavery of ALL girls worldwide.

And because "#BringBackSomebodyElsesGirlsMineAreSafelyTuckedAwayInAnElitePrivateSchoolSurroundedByGuards" is too long for Twitter.

The initial # was tweeted out by two of the mother's of the missing girls. It was originally "BringBackOurDaughters". It was changed to 'OurGirls' when the issue went viral.

While I appreciate the entire hashtag thing, everyone is starting to look stupid. Does anyone, for one moment, think that the people who took these girls gives one rat's asshair about Michelle Obama or The Rock holding up a piece of freaking paper? It's about as stupid as someone saying they support our troops.

Oh, really? You support our troops? Wow. Way to go out on the ledge there, Scooter.

All it does it point to the people who need to do something. Unfortunately, our WH won't be doing anything unless there's a fundraiser involved, so pipe down the hashtags people, mmmkay?

Learn about the situation, then speak. You'll sound smarter.

If only sounding smarter had any true value.

Still, why don't you tell me what I'm missing: A terrorist group in Nigeria has taken almost 300 girls captive. Everybody wants the girls to come home. The terrorists are saying they'll release some girls if some of their brothers in arms are released from prison. The US could probably do more, but Hillary Clinton would not name them a terrorist group. The only way we have to save these girls is, apparently, by holding up a sign.

So what am I missing that will make me sound smarter? Are all the signs a secret code that makes the terrorists' heads explode? Are they like Slim Whitman music to the terrorists?

Enlighten us. Please.

I'm annoyed by the whole thig to be honest. Granted this act is on a somewhat larger scale, but it's not like Boko Haram is new. I mean, this very administration fought amongst itself about whether or not to even include them on the terror watch list.

They've been murdering, oppressing, kidnapping, and blowing sh1t up for years. Now all of the sudden it's the cause de rigueur for celebs on twitter.

In one way it raises awareness which forced CNN to stop talking about the missing airliner to focus on this.

But the real problem is that Nigeria even after all these girls are returned home will still be a dangerous place to be in where this kind of stuff will continue to happen. I have several colleagues who were born in different parts of Africa who all agree that Nigeria is an extremely unsafe place and they aren't surprised that this stuff is happening.

Some of these tweets are coming from the White House.

Neither awareness, nor tapping into those who influence media coverage are at issue.

Anything else?

And once this situation with the girls is resolved (one way or another), the tweets will stop, and the administration will move on to the next popular issue and forget all about Nigeria, which will still be a very dangerous shithole, even by sub-Saharan African standards.

Thus illustrating the difference between campaigning and actually formulating and implementing coherent policy.

Gregg, what, exactly, does this twitter meme serve to accomplish?

You're both still missing the point. Read about the situation, not the politics, and the answer becomes very, very, clear. I promise.

Ha! Ha! (On iPad and there aren't my usual smilies available so know those are heartfelt guffaws and not sarcastic)

I'm not sure if you're making a joke... But either way it's hilarious.

Now you're just winging it. I'll follow you down the rabbit hole a little further. I've read up on this, and if you take the politics out of it, here -- again -- is what I know:

The terrorists are saying they'll release some girls if some of their brothers in arms are released from prison. The only way we have to save these girls is, apparently, by holding up a sign.

Enlighten us. Show us the truth. What is so very clear that only you, apparently, can see it? Tell us...what are we missing and how are the hashtags going to save the day?

If you want the answer simply look up the daily show yesterday and you will have your answer.
