Bills Fan since '64 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I guess this is the new NFL jargon of 2014. Everyone is looking for "long" guys. Not "long" like he can go deep or run the post pattern, but "long" like 6'4". What's up with that?
YoloinOhio Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 They say it in basketball all the time and so annoying. Almost as bad as "scoring the basketball."
Malazan Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 well, everybody knows how to define tall. In the quest to make sh*t up to sound like they know more than they do, it is now "long".
Kelly the Dog Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 not just height... arms not just height... arms This. It's usually used it seems with a guy who has good height and long arms.
dave mcbride Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Actually, there's a very legit reason -- it encompasses long arms. For instance, Michael crabtree plays taller than his listed height because he has freakishly long arms. In basketball, the 6'10" olajuwan is the classic example. His crazy long arms made him like a 7'1" player. Edited May 10, 2014 by dave mcbride
oman128 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I thought you meant hair, they all got long hair. Get a haircut....
Big Turk Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) If a 6'2" player has 33" arms and a 6'0" player has 35" arms and the same vertical, aren't they effectively the same height for the purposes they are evaluating, ie, how high can he go to get the ball? Since the 6'0" player isn't really tall, he would be considered "long" since he has above average arm length which dictates he will be able to get to the same catch height as the 6'2" player Edited May 10, 2014 by matter2003

Kelly the Dog Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 It may have started when Ed "Too Tall" Jones of the Cowboys legally changed his name to Ed "Too Long" Jones.

KOKBILLS Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I've always thought it was term used for the combination of height and arm length... Like...If an OT is 6-7 with 34" arm length he's tall...But if he's 6-7 with 36" arms he's long... But what the hell do I know? I'm 5-9 with T-Rex arms...
