Offside Number 76 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Basically a Spikes clone... Aggressive, big physical player against the run with good instincts who is very good against the run and struggles in coverage and drops...suggest he is likely a two-down "run thumper" Which Spikes? (Brandon? Takeo?) And again, I would have preferred Nix.
dayman Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Spikes is twice the man this kid is, don't like the pick unless we already plan to have Spikes for only 1 year.
Doc Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Hopefully the guy who identified Kiko did the same with this guy. And I'd call Kiko a baller.
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Backup for Spikes? Basically a Spikes clone... Aggressive, big physical player against the run with good instincts who is very good against the run and struggles in coverage and drops...suggest he is likely a two-down "run thumper" Makes sense. He could compete for a spot at SLB, over Rivers and is a good backup if Spikes A) stinks or B) winds up being really, really good and leaves next year.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I wouldn't call Kiko a thumper. I would like to see someone try. Kiko would growl in his face and then bite his nose off.
Chilly Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 He was Gil Brandt's 57th best player, so a good value here.
johnwalter Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 hes probably strong on 1 and 2, mike on passing downs
section122 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1664125/preston-brown
NoSaint Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 hes probably strong on 1 and 2, mike on passing downs Probably rarely on the field this year but that is ok
The Voice of Truth Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 He is a big physical MLB against the run..basically his strength/weaknesses/bottom line reads like a Brandon Spikes clone and is likely a hedge against hi not resigning after this year... I guess if the Spikes mold is what fits our scheme. I like a sideline to sideline guy though. Also with the emergence of the tight end, you need cover guys. I guess you can't expect too much in the third though.
Johnny Hammersticks Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Was hoping for Gabe Jackson or David Yankee, but I get why they like this kid.
HurlyBurly51 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Isn't Nix a true 3-4 NT? Doesn't seem like a fit for this D.
MrLocke Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Wanted Jace Amaro with the last pick and I wanted Tre Mason with this pick. I want to be wrong!
Max997 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 There were still players on the board that would prob play more this season then Brown who will be a backup
QCity Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I don't hate the pick. Seems like insurance in case Spikes does something stupid. Really wanted Chrichton who went 1 pick ahead of us grrr
KOKBILLS Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Spikes is on a one year deal True... But I also think this pick has a lot to do with how they view Bradham as the primary back-up LB... I'm getting the feeling they're not in love with Nigel...
Manther Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Was Nix still available? Because the Bills needed a backup DT well before a backup LB. Yes. Why is he falling sooo far?
biggerdaddynj Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Wanted a LDE but I trust Whaley and we do need someone to take over for Spikes (but we needed a LDE now also could have used Nix at DT so if Dareus is suspended we'd be covered). Regardless, here are some scouting reports on Preston Brown: Nat'l Football Post: Preston Brown – Linebacker Brown is a fourth-year senior and a three-year starter. He has excellent size, speed, and athleticism. I estimate his size at 6’2 – 255 and he runs in the 4.75-4.80 range. He is a good athlete to go along with good strength and explosion. He flashes being a playmaker and can be physically tough at the point of attack. Sportsline: STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES STRENGTHS: He's a stoutly-built athlete but possesses a dynamic first-step for his size, and displays explosiveness downhill when closing on the line of scrimmage. He's an extremely physical but fundamentally-sound tackler who prides himself on tackling hard and violent. He recognizes and anticipates the run well, particularly between the tackles, and is an effective angler when pursuing the run to the outside. Edited May 10, 2014 by Beerball
