ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Anybody know what might be causing my phone to not be able to send or receive pictures. It can do normal SMS/MMS... Just no pictures via text. Email fine. All of a sudden when I send a picture, the whole text disppears. When I receiveve, it asks me to download or reject giving a reject by date. I press download, it says it is downloading, then fails and says: "Message failed no receipt... Yada yada yada." I have Verizon, I am not near my limits, I have data on, I cleared my cache and everything else... Did I accidently check the wrong box or something. Using Android Jelly Bean... All of a sudden it started acting up, I do not know how to correct. Much obliged for the help? Edited April 28, 2014 by ExiledInIllinois
NDBUFFCUSEFAN Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Did you reboot the phone? If you have taken any other troubleshooting steps please list them as well along with your phone model. Also, what messaging app are you using?

With Verizon and a few other carriers that can reset something or another in the whole relay system. Also, if your background data is off and you do not keep your text or picture message open at that time and let it upload or download you will not be able to send/rec pix.
The Poojer Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 What SMS/MMS client are you using? I use Google hangouts and just got an update today...could be a simple quirk. If using hangouts try uninstalling recent updates
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Thanks for the great start to the three posters above! I did the reboot, still no dice. I thought baout the Google Hangouts thing, but don't use it... I do updates all the time. Phone is 2 years old, Motorola Droid 4 (I like the slide Qwerty)... Worked flawless (a bit slow @ time) up to this recent glitch. Thanks jboyst... I will try the send my own picture thing. Mobile data is on, first thing I checked. What do you mean by background data? Everything is work well, except this... Strange...

ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 I doubt EII is that progressive. I am amazed he doesn't have a flip phone. I had one for 6 years up until 2012... LoL... I don't even use a computer anymore @ home... Oh... Pooj, I just use the SMS system that came with it. I have been using Go Launcher/Locker for 2 years.
boyst Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 L to R @ Top The first image is my notification of background data being off. You can drag down and it will tell you. The next is my smart actions which normally controls my data for me and saves my battery. Alarm, 4G, Phone signal, etc next In your data section you have a menu, usually, or something you can use to control your data. Background data and Auto Sync are usually the two options. If you have a data plan it is nice to keep background data off because it will really hog data up if you don't set it up right.

I will check that again in case I missed it...BUT everything looked good. I keep everything on and just plug in... I have chargers everywhere... LoL. That triangle does pop up when I attempt to receive a message... Says it failed. I just sent myself a pic, same thing... Just disappeared totally. I wonder if I got a bad update of something or a conflict? Anyway... I am posting this from my phone from the lock wall (recently got busy tonight @ work). EDIT: Everything checks out in the data usage settings tab. Edited April 28, 2014 by ExiledInIllinois
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Well the good thing is that this glitch doesn't hinder my ability to post of the fly! Oh wait, is that a good thing? ;-) It does stop me from getting silly stuff like this from my brother via text messaging: LoL... Warning, close your eyes fellas... And if you are brave... Squint really hard, she will look classier!
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Did you reboot the phone? Wow... As of this morning, I figured I give it one more stab in the dark and reboot. I shut everything down, cleared some stuff, my cache, etc... and then gave it another reboot. The problem seems to be resolved. This was the first thing I thought of a few days ago. After another reboot (like the third)... I sent an audio file first to myself... To see if that was an issue. It was a bit sluggish and asked me to download or reject. I downloaded it and everything is fine. Now pictures are finally going through with pictures to myself.... Now I am waiting for my wife to send something from the outside (iPhone). It was baffling, that is why I finally posted here. I would attach a pic and the whole text would go blank and then disappear when I backed out of the texting screen (of course, because there was nothing attached or type, but there should have been). Anyway... Thanks! Case closed (I hope). Edited April 28, 2014 by ExiledInIllinois
NDBUFFCUSEFAN Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Glad it's working, if you are on reddit there's an android subreddit that's a great resource for troubleshooting.

Now I am lost again... I think boyst hit the nail on the head... I am not that progressive. What is this reddit you speak of ? subreddit? LoL Man I am screwed. I am still waiting for my wife's reply... She is probably still sweeping my text under the rug... Until I get 22 pictures of the cats and it jazzes up again. Thanks so much!
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Okay... Sort back to the drawing board... Wife just texted back, normal SMS is coming through from her iPhone, BUT MMS/pic is getting "hung up." Before they were coming through but couldn't download. Maybe bad cell/data signal? I told her try again later. WTF? EDIT: All's good, actually better than ever, iPhone pics now appear right in my text block... DUH! Again... Thanks for the help! Dean Cain Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Is this a company phone? Sometimes businesses apply account-level blocks across all Multi-Media Messages MMS (pictures & videos). Text messages or SMS messages for short would therefore go thru. My neighbor works for Boeing and this recently happened to him. If there isn't a block, then it may very well be your phone is out of room to download the picture message. You will need to go in and delete or save old messages to free up room.
