USMCBillsFan
Why is it that Willis McGahee wasn't allowed to wear a tinted one for us this year but I saw at least two or three Eagles players with tinted shields on?
UConn James
I think it was something that a player had to actually get an Rx to be allowed to wear a tinted visor. Like if they get headaches from bright sun or somesuch. IIRC, it was instituted so fans could see/"connect" with the players. Even tho they introduced a penalty if a player takes his helmet off on the field.... Then again, this is the NFL we're discussing, where a fumble is a fumble. Unless it's not. Corp000085
I believe i heard somewhere a while ago that it was a team rule thing. The Rx thing makes sense though.
col_forbin
Although, you would think every player would be able to produce a Rx's note. Wouldn't you???
BillsFanLevy
Actually it's a team rule, that Willis can't wear the visor. Cause remember when Tiki wore it he needed cause he looked at the place he was running. It's an individual team rule which is stupid if it helps him then let him wear it. Ramius
i agree its a dumbass team rule...the tinted visor looks so much more badass than the clear one...
Toomstone
I always thought it was a NFL rule that you could not wear the tinted visor without a Rx from the team Doctor. The rule was because the Doctors needed to see the players eyes if he had suffered a head injury on the field.
eSJayDee
Just speculation, but perhaps it's a similar rule as to the extra pads, bands, etc. where a team can select only one or two colors & the players must abide. So each team might be limited to only one tint (or lack thereof) of visor.
bartshan-83
McGahee looked like such badass at the U with that orange tinted oakley deal. The clear one just looks like a lame substitute. You guys remember Barry Sanders wearing an orange shaded one? It looked weird as hell I thought. Not nearly as cool as the Miami ones.
UConn James
I wasn't making this up. It's not team-by-team, it's league-wide. NFL Rule Changes and Clarifications 1998 NFL Rule Changes and Clarifications... * Tinted visors are banned from players' facemasks except for medical need. The disconnect b/w their reasoning to disallow tinted visors and then disallowing players from taking off their helmets is laughable.
