ajzepp Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 ...someone, please tell me why the two situations are different. Why is it not just okay but somehow laudable to suggest that a blind 10 year old with CP should sing the anthem, but God forbid one should suggest Doug Jr. or Hunter Kelly should...? 216663 You make it sound like the little guy had no ability whatsoever......obviously he wasn't using a cheat sheet.......no why? Cause he CAN'T FRIGGIN SEE! So apparently he took the initiative to learn the song in order to be able to perform it. If there is another disabled child who is ready to go, I say sign the little dude (or dudette) up!!!!
ajzepp Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Only heard the girl singing the anthem - for those criticizing her, she got more applause during the anthem than most people get after the anthem. I trust she will remember that moment the rest of her life, and many in attendance at the game will as well. You critical stevestojans will forget the whole thing by next week. I personally found it more enjoyable watching someone like her do a great rendition than I do watching stars butcher it by adding their own signature twang. With regards to the boy (who I missed), I'm so glad the NFL is using events like this to make a difference in people's lives. Let the "stars" have the half-time shows, but leave our national anthem to the talented plain-folk. Francis Scott Key would probably prefer it that way. 216670 Exactly......the difference it made in this little boy's life is ALL that mattered.
billsfanone Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I usually get up to go to the bathroom during the National Anthem. So, like most times, I missed out. Was it really THAT bad?
The Poojer Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 look i am not as bad a person as maybe i am coming off. i am just holding my ground that it is ok to criticise the vocal performance of the kid. not the personal achievement of getting out there and doing it, just the fact that we seem to be unable to say something "negative" like his singing sucked. once again i did not see the nat'l anthem in question. i am simply defending peoples rights to say he wasn't good. and when people said it yesterday, when i read it there was not a single mention that the kid had disabilities. Well, i guess if you want to criticize proud, blind, 10 year old disabled children with cerebral palsy, there is little I can do about it. 216668

The Poojer Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 yeah but yesterday at game time someone posted saying that he wasn't very good and there was not mention of any disabilities, up to where i finished reading, which was really only 1 or 2 posts Okay, well somewhere in the beginnig of this thread, Stojan posted about what exactly has challenged the kid health-wise in his 9 or 10 years of life. 216693
Dan Gross Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Do you think their eyes were watering because it was 15 degrees with 20 mph winds? I mean the kid is brave and sang pretty well but it wasn't a rendition ala Whitney Houston at the wide right SB. 216651 No, it wasn't, it was live. From what I understand about the kid, if he had been allowed the opportunity to pre-record and lip-synch along at the game (a la Whitney), he would have nailed it, without having to hide behind "one of these notes ought to be the right one"-style vibrato.... Read this story to better understand... http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:2Gm3J...al+anthem&hl=en

If that were the healthy, well-provided for child of an NFL player, I could see maybe being critical of him or wondering why he was chosen to sing the anthem. But in this case, you need to have some perspective. In perspective, I don't see how anyone can watch it and not be touched by it. The kid is a little champ.
The Poojer Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 here is the thread of which i refer this is from right after the NA in question, i have only read as far as post #3 by nodrab claiming he is "bloody awful" Okay, well somewhere in the beginnig of this thread, Stojan posted about what exactly has challenged the kid health-wise in his 9 or 10 years of life. 216693
The Poojer Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 once i again i plead guilty of incomplete information, I did NOT see the NA, I was not aware of any disabilities up until this AM YOu know what? #89 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 It was FAR from the singing of Carl Lewis where the players were laughing. I'm done with this thread now. I just can't believe that people have to cut down the children's singing.

DC Tom Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 How about Roseanne? What a disgrace she was....... 216770 I was just about to say that. The kid may have been a bad vocalist, but he wasn't nearly Roseanne Barr bad...

But he still can't sing.

But he still can't sing. 216936 He can't, or he didn't sing well yesterday? Big difference. It's like judging the Patriots by the "Miami embarassment." He did get the job during the regular season based on his performance at the auditions, unlike some mentioned here who get the job based on their merits as a celebrity. He did get a lot of positive comments by people after his regular season performances of said anthem, which were done without any sort of introduction saying "this is Timmy. Be nice to him because he's disabled." I wouldn't expect you to be so ignorant as to categorize a person's talents based on one performance, so I expect you've heard him sing on other occasions as well....
