GM's can't afford picks like big Mike Williams or Aaron Maybin either. The draft is a crap shoot. Come out swinging and do your best to improve your team. Sometimes you're successful sometimes not so much. There are busts at all positions but the specialists. See your guy? Get your guy.

Maybin was a risk an a dumb move. This pick was really a bad bad move

Big Mike was a solid starter in college. Didn't mind this pick as much!

Either way both will hurt a franchise!

I think we signed garrison sanborn last year to a contract up till and including his death.

Best ever LS is a Buffalo Bill . Seriously nailed this one. Crosman must be delighted with his luck

So Sanborn is the VET backup QB!

Is there anyway to close this thread? This horse has long been dead. If all these fans are pining there hopes on EJ somehow panning out then they are in for a very sad football season. Please close this thread and lets talk about long snappers

Yeah, and guess what? At this point in time, you have a 60-70% chance of being right. Great work....at betting with the odds...and not actually analyzing EJ's game, finding specific data to point to, and making a cogent argument.

However, what is going to happen if you are wrong, exactly? You gonna come back to this thread, and admit it?

Bet you'll want this thread closed then.

Your kinda all over the place in your opinion on this (which is fine...its your opinion)

- You recognize that he was a rookie......but wanted to see more

- You recognize that he was injured......but are dissapointed that you didnt see more

- You recoginze that Rookies struggle....and you recognize that he did make good plays at times.....but are dissapointed

PATIENCE is what is required here.....its like nobody remembers what was said of this QB when we drafted him last year and they want a finished product that first year.

TON of talent.......needed work......

Very well put. When he was drafted they acknowledged he was rough around the edges with a ton of upside. How quickly everyone forgot.

Excellent post, but not sure why we shouldn't consider QB in 1st. Stuff rarely happens the way you plan it will in NFL. If EJ is smart enough to step out of bounds in Cleveland game, maybe we win that game, EJ shows more promise, and we finish with .500 or better record or maybe even make playoffs. But he didn't and we are almost back to Square 1 at QB position. If Carr is available at #9, pull the trigger. Get a 3rd rounder for EJ and move on instead of most likely wasting another year. Carr is a much better prospect than Manuel. Not even close who the better passer is.

Seriously, the fourth best QB in this draft, David Carr Jr. is better than a highly touted player with a year in our system? Keep smoking drugs, man.

It was common knowledge back then

Pining there hopes on EJ or pinning their hopes on EJ.... Enough said.

And plenty of people thought it would be the best thing in the world for EJ to sit and learn behind Kolb, before KK met his nemesis the rubber mat.

Highly touted? Manuel wasn't even considered the best QB in a horrible QB draft class. Charlie Casserly, former Redskins and Texans GM, said he would rank Manuel 8th best QB in this draft class. Former Bears GM and long-time scout Greg Gabriel ranks Carr as his #1 QB in this draft. Do you think anyone would give Bills a 1st round draft pick for Manuel? I think we'd be lucky to get a 3rd for our highly touted player who can't stay on the field.

Gil Brandt on EJ Manuel

http://blogs.buffalobills.com/tag/gil-brandt/

“He probably doesn’t have as much ability as some people in this league. But he’s going to get it done because he works at it and he has a great relationship with players, which for a quarterback is important.”

Host John Murphy asked Brant where Manuel would stack up among the quarterbacks available in this year’s draft, a class that includes stars like Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater.

“I haven’t stacked this one up yet,” he answered. “But I still think he’d be a first round pick.”

Ha! If I start calling you names, you'll know it. I don't need to bother, as my argument doesn't require it.

There's no opinion here: there's only observable fact. You can observe the success rate of rookie/2nd year QBs, the same as everybody else.

Thus, betting against any of them is a safer bet than for. An opinion, sure, but how much value does a stacked deck opinion hold? If you are right, is it because you were right, or because the math makes you right? I'm not sure how any of us are supposed to come away from an "I do/don't believe in EJ" opinion, with nothing else attached, and see any value in it.

Now, if you were to pick out something in his mechanics, and better still, tell us why it can't be corrected/it's difficult to correct, and actually start adding some value to that opinion, great: tell us something we don't know.

And, before you ask me when I've ever done that, I present you with this: http://forums.twobil...hins +tannehill

I took great pleasure being at the Dolphins game last year, both from our new, awesome, tailgate spot, and from having my observations confirmed, live, right in front of me. Staring down recievers, only looking at half the field, and holding the ball as a result = lots of sacks and 0 points.

Gil Brandt on EJ Manuel

http://blogs.buffalo...tag/gil-brandt/

I'll see your Charley Casserly and raise you a Gil Brandt, who is so connected and wired into the process throughout the league. He knows EVERYBODY and has probably lent advice to every scout out there over the course of his 50 years in the league. He is a highly venerable person in the scouting community.

The decision to invite EJ to the draft last year was truly indicative of Manuel's climb up the boards between the Senior Bowl, Combine, Pro Day, and private workouts. It was a steady, consistent rise and he was a lock to go in the first round somewhere between the 20th and 28th picks by the time draft day rolled around.

Would you say EJ's rise in draft stockk was similar to Bortles'?

How do you feel about Bortles as a prospect?

My opinion will probably be dismissed as me being a Manuel hater, however:

I think Bortles does everything better than Manuel coming out. By everything I mean better arm, better accuracy, better mobility, instincts and pocket presence. I would probably take Bortles if I was Houston. He isn't a perfect thrower yet but he is so much more natural thrower than Manuel.

Yes, highly touted, as in he was in most people's top 3 of QBs. Casserly, he of the vaunted David Carr and Heath Shuler picks, doesn't hold much weight with me. And most everyone thought DCarr mach one was a franchise pick at the time. I've been wrong on QBs but I would not take this draft's leftovers at the position. That's how you end up with JP Losman. If the top guys aren't there you look for the one that others are overlooking irrationally. For me that is Aaron Murray and I don't mind waiting for him to heal.
