hurfldurf Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 The lease calms our short-term fears, but we're looking for an owner to calm our medium and long-term fears of the Bills moving. To me, Donald Trump minimizes the medium term (10-15 years), but raises my long term fear significantly even if you give his words of loyalty to Buffalo the benefit of the doubt. We all think/hope that Mary Wilson and the trust want to or feel obligated to sell to local interests. I can imagine twenty years from now, potential sellers like Pegula/Golisano/Jacobs etc. feeling the same obligations. We've seen Pegula and Golisano already act this out. I'd feel much safer with owners who have historical ties to the region or family to leave the team to. Donald Trump is 67 years old. If he lives to the average age of an American male, he'll be gone in about 10 years. The Jacobs/Pegula/Golisano crowd don't have much time themselves, but I can imagine their trusts and families will have much more sentimentality in a sale equation than Donald Trumps'. A sale to Trump would be certainly be fun for the next few years, but imagine what a sinking feeling it will be in 2025-2030 when we are hearing rumors of the Trump trust looking to maximize the value of their NFL team.

Relax. By 2025, Trump's toupee will have usurped complete control of his being. That's been its plan all along, and nothing, or no one, can stop it now.
BackInDaDay Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Trump or Bon Jovi... hmmm. i believe Wilson always had the best interest of the club and it's fans at heart, but it's amazing how almost every decision he made regarding his franchise ended poorly. If one of these two gain control of his franchise, perhaps the deal will be sealed with the mystical appearance of a giant middle finger rising from the cold depths of Lake Erie.

jaybee Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 People for years have been concerned Bills will leave Buffalo when Ralph passes. Ralph passes. RIP, Ralph Wilson A successful business man steps up, makes his interest in the Bills football franchise public. Says if he can obtain the franchise it is staying in Buffalo. Same fans concerned with team leaving do a 180 and dont want potential new owner who will keep team here involved. I guess I just dont get it. Donald Trump, love em or hate em may be the best thing. Careful what you wish for. No other groups / buyers have said team stays in Buffalo. To me Donald being in the ring is the best thing we've got going at this point. JMHO of course.

JMHO of course. i understand your sentiment, but let's be clear on Trump - whatever decisions he would make regarding the Bills will be in his interest, and his interest only. these may not always align with the best interest of the football team, or Buffalo. Trump is in the Kelly group. if Trump was planning to buy the Jets, he'd enlist Namath.. the Dolphins? Marino.. he's no fool, and Jim's got plenty on his plate at the moment.

This would be a valid post if you were to ignore Trump's history of doing only what's in his best interest regardless of what he says in public. You're willing to overlook the shark at your front door because he's dangling the exact carrot you're longing for. That's how you get eaten, not how you keep your team in Buffalo.
PromoTheRobot Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 13m A storied franchise with a loyal fanbase, @buffalobills should remain in Buffalo. But will it if I can make a huge profit moving them? #ArtOfTheDeal
Pondslider Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Trump buys the team and they are the Las Vegas Dollar Bills by 2021.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Can someone with such an established connection with the gambling industry become a sports team owner?
Deranged Rhino Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Can someone with such an established connection with the gambling industry become a sports team owner? Nope. He'd have to sell his casinos.

Whether it's Trump or someone else, the sale could include a contract the states the team will stay in WNY. While a contract such as this could be broken it does provide more security than a handshake with a wink-wink and crossed fingers. While it may be difficult to tie sever penalties to, I have heard of similar documents being drawn up when other sports franchises have been sold in the past. .
CodeMonkey Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Nope. He'd have to sell his casinos. He already did. They're publicly owned. Yeah apparently Trump owns some common stock in "Trump Entertainment Resorts" after selling it some time ago. He has no other ties to it any more. He probably wouldn't even have to sell that stock if he didn't want to.
zow2 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hey, if Trump buys the Bills and signs his name to a long-term non-relocation agreement, I'm all in. I mean if he's serious about the Bills remaning in Buffalo I'm sure he would have no qualms about signing his name to that. Maybe he'd even help subsidize a fancy new retractable roof stadium. The dreaming is endless! Anyway, all this public cheerleading on Twitter makes me skeptical that Trump is a real player in this. Would a serious bidder on the team really act like this? Then again, owning an NFL team might be like buying a big new toy for him.. something he's always wanted...and to be part of an exclusive rich guy club. I for one hope he's serious about this.
thewildrabbit Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Wow. Not many would call Trump a moron. If "moron" is defined as one who acts moronically, I beg to differ. He may be a moron, a super rich moron. 3.8 billion to be exact. A man who has wanted to own an NFL team for years, and his desire to win is paramount. I don't care if the guy is green underneath makeup, has plastic hair, is from Mars, and loves Putin. If he will keep the team in Buffalo, and turn them into a winning football team ...then I'm 100% all for him.

I imagine he would consider that assuming there was something in it for him. I mean be real, you can't expect any businessperson to lock themselves in like that without there being a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for them. Billionaires don't become billionaires by making stupid business decisions.
