Honestly, I am trying to wrap my brain around this. Where does this attitude come from?

some people drive for hours on end, who have to deal with idiots on the road, who only drive for for 5 minutes and are in no hurry to get where they are going.

I understand you point. If you are in a hurry, plan better. Plan around the what the law is. I am coming to the conclusion that a lot people are sociopaths. I am not saying that you can't speed, we all do... But the blatant disregard for the law along with no conscience is troubling. Honestly, listen to yourselves.

I plan an hour drive for 45 mile commute where the average posted speed limit is 55.

I can make it to work in 50 minutes on Mondays and Fridays, average 65 minutes mid week (and always leaving at the same time) so why should it take me an extra 30 to 45 minutes because some idiot is grooming themselves, reading and texting, and going 5 miles under the speed limit in the left 2 lanes?

I don't understand, there is no attitude it's a very simple formula. Slow right left fast = peace and harmony

Dumb slowpoke doesn't follow the rules = no peace no harmony.

No, not really. Slower traffic to the right signs do not mean speeding on the left. Just like passing, you aren't suppose to pass over the speed limit... Okay, I understand, you gotta do what you gotta do... But, technically if you pass over the limit, you can get a ticket. Now of course the other car should slow down and enable the pass. Yet, the car attempting the pass is burdened. If the vehicle being passed is @ the speed limit, assume the line and fall behind... It is unsafe to pass. This isn't a choice for you to decide in this sitiation. If you are in a hurry, plan accordingly around the speed limits next time.

Again... Those slower to the right signs assume the speed limit with a certain margin of usually not more than 5 over/under (that is the margin of error the cops ticket to)... That is REASONABLE. But what you guys are laying down is wanton disregard... And in the end that makes it dangerous for everybody. Your happiness is not paramount to everything else. ESPECIALLY when driving.

If you are the car behind, you are the burdened vehicle. If the vehicle ahead is REASONABLY doing the speed (like the woman in this vid), what's the problem? It isn't all about you.

Because: YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE ON THE ROAD!

And reading, grooming, etc... isn't the reason why it is taking an extra 30 to 45 minutes. The extra time is most likely caused by the volume of traffic AND other factors like how the road is designed. Roll your eyes all you want... Think "slack" on a really long freight train. Now mix in a bunch of other factors. Yes, the grooming and eating by other driver's is problematic... But it is not the sole reason for the extra time.

Finally, your time tables cut it way too close for a massive 45 mile commute which I assume is during normal 9-5 working hours. You simply are not thinking of the world around you enough. In the area I am in, @ a 45 mile trip... I would leave a full 90 minutes to two hours early for work during rush hour situations. But that is me, I like to get into work early. Don't like it? Work some other time, live closer, etc...

I still don't see how this is a debate. If you're passing someone, no matter how slowly, you still have a right to the passing lane.

If she was going 60, and the car she's passing is going 55, and the guy behind her wants to go 80, then the guy behind her needs to wait until she makes the pass, and gets over. But his aggressiveness makes it hard to predict if she can get over safely, or not.

Show me where the left lane in this situation is a "passing lane." Heck, show me anywhere in the law that it says the left lane is a dedicated passing lane. I know this has become common practice... I find it comical how people call it "the passing lane" "the hammer lane" etc...

Did anybody watch the video, the road wasn't even a limited access road. The road had cross streets. Maybe she was going to make a left turn @ the intersection seen in the video? She has every right to be in that lane doing what she did... Which was absolutely nothing except catch a douchebag in full blown rat-race rage hang himself.

I have to meet the core working hours of 9 to 3. I already work 7:30 to 4:30 as it is and working any earlier is unproductive.

Just because the guy behind wants to go 80, doesn't mean he will ever go 80... They are burdened by the traffic and the laws. Simple, what planet are we on. Mods should unlock the cnesorship thread and merge this one with it! Just take a different road if the traffic is too busy.

how many times do we need to post the signs that say

SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT

Again, that is your problem.

I see people all the time like you even while they are enjoying themselves for a day out on a the water. They can't even detach from the rat-race when they are recreating for the day. Sometimes they can get to the lock and can transit immediately. All it takes is 15-20 or so minutes if they catch it just right. Then there are times where it takes them 2 hours. Heck down river, it could half a DAY. Boy do they cry. I tell them to allot for the two hours each way or go around the 40 miles or so through downtown by river. What am I do do?

Again... Think it is bad on the road... You should see these types of idiots in a boat or on a jetski... Even worse on the other side of the coin, a sailboat under either motor or sail... You think having to deal with bicycles are bad enough! Or even this woman who was doing 4 under the speed limit... WOW. People need to mellow out and start think of others.

I also followed alongside and behind an unmarked cop for 12 mines this morning. The posted speed limit 55 mph , both of us were cruising 65 to 70 mph (down a 1 mile hill).

Did he pull me over? No, yet he had plenty of opportunity to do so.

Again, that is your problem.

I will agree that slow uncaring, unaware idiot drivers are the problem.

Arkansas

Law prohibits obstructing traffic by driving continuously in the left lane

Slower means not over the speed limit. And obstructing traffic is not holding back somebody who wants to speed. If that's the case, then everything is obstruction!

Anyway, that site is great... I would bet cops love the Arkansas thing because they can get out into traffic better from where they are set up in the medium to catch speeders.

I will agree that slow uncaring, unaware idiot drivers are the problem.

No. Totally wrong. They are the most caring, unless they are doing under the minimum speed limit. They are caring for your safety. Again, we are talking about going the limit or just a few miles under. They are very much aware you are behind them and you are the burdened vehicle.

You state is just effed up... This where the cops become a part of the problem... They have bigger fish to fry and bigger revenues to gain... They enable the azz-backward culture through their own gain... Boy does that tie into the culture very nicely!

"I want to drive fast, and since I'm the only one that matters, everyone else get out of the way if they don't want to drive my way! If you drive any way other than mine, you're an idiot slowpoke."

Is that what I'm meant to understand by some of you folks?

It's really very simple: others don't have to abide by the world according to you. If you want to talk about what people should do on the road, then we really should be following the rules, otherwise known as the law. Yes, I get it, most of us don't follow the law on the road, which in most cases works out okay. The issue becomes when folks start trying to claim what's right and wrong, and how others ought to act.

The biggest issue I see in this thread is that some folks believe that it's their right to drive as fast as they want to, and that anyone that obstructs that right is in the wrong. Well folks, I can't put it any clearer than this: you are wrong. You don't have the right to drive whatever speed you feel capable of driving. Now, if you see fit to do so, feel free. Just remember a few things:

1) What you're doing is against the law, and any punishment you receive for doing it is both just and fair, since you knew that going into the decision to drive that way.

2) If someone else on the road obstructs you from driving at the speed you prefer to drive, well, they're not doing anything wrong by the letter of the law the vast majority of the time. Oh, and if it bothers you, then that's your problem. You can get mad, curse, swear, let it affect your driving, etc. Guess who you're hurting? Need a hint? Go watch the video the OP posted...

a) The video has been removed from the OP. But I remember her passing a truck or something in the video. If I remember incorrectly, then my entire opinion goes out the window, and she shouldn't have been in the left lane.

b) The left lane is commonly called the passing lane in many states. Some states have laws saying not to be in the left lane unless passing (I think PA is one). But really, its just about courteous driving. If you aren't actively passing people, and traffic is light, stay to the right. It helps traffic quality, because it's a common expectation of other drivers.

But again, I stand by my opinion. If she is passing someone, then she is more than welcome to the left lane. After passing, it's best to get over. But I understand the hesitation to get over if you have someone driving aggressively behind you, as you don't know what they are going to do (ie, try to pass you on the right). So to me, in that case, its best to stay where you are, and let them make their pass (and in this case, swerve into a ditch).

That's fair. I have noticed on the NYThurway they have signs that say: "Keep right unless passing." Or something like that. This lady wasn't on a limited access road, there were cross streets. The left lane is hers if she wants it @ a reasonable speed that adheres to the law. What if she had to make a left coming up?

Now... Back to the keeping right... Cops love that, they can get out in traffic better and nab speeders. Would suck if they had a semi-blocking them.

I do take umbrage when somebody wants to willfully break the law because of their happiness and they feel entitled to it. No different than the drunk who gets behind the wheel. They are putting everybody's life in danger over their selfish desire.

This is how this thread is going to go? As soon as it settles to it's rightful place at the bottom, Gugny pops it up and asks "Anything new here?" as if there really could be, and then it's off to the races with the same arguments in the first go around and the first time Gugny was looking for any new info as to whether A or B are both jackholes or not.

And, EII will waste so much bandwidth that SDS will have to be looking for a new server.

It just drives me nuts how people are in such a dangerpus rush, rush neurotic frame of mind. I am not that much a slowpoke anyway, I am always going over... But then there are always the few azzholes that wanna go 50% faster. Even fisherman gotta have a bigger motor on their bassboat so they can get to the fishing hole first. What a rat-race!

Anyway... LoL! Way too funny. I am lock operator... I know what slow is, my job is like watching paint dry @ times! Sorry about the bandwidth problem! 21st century tech trapped in a 19th century mentality!

Slow down people, be safe for everyone. Smell the diesel fumes! ;-)
