Guys- he's a fighter. They may have to resect more of his jaw, I'm sure more chemo, and radiation. I just worry he's had mets and spread to other areas of the body. Cancer of the one is very serious. We will all pray for the best Bill ever, and a tremendous role model for young ones. It's not over and when they said he traveled to NYC, I'm sure he went to Sloan Kettering. That is one of the best cancer centers in the world.

Your in my prayers #12!

Jill Kelly's blog, which I saw for the first time, states "the cancer’s back, aggressive, and starting to spread." Must read if only to see the picture and see how the guy we all think we know is still able to think about others.

Saddest news indeed.

I had read that - seems to be showing up a lot on Facebook. Very cool story. But, that sentence that you quoted has been what has been on my mind since I read it.

With all he's going through, he looks pretty good. Buftex's pic didn't work, but I'm pretty sure this is what he was putting up (Actually this is Erin Kelly's pic, and the other one is Thurman's):

:censored: this is sad

Totally agreed. But, my mother's breast cancer looked really bad in 2000. Bad news after bad news. She ended up living until 2012 and died of something totally unrelated.

I don't understand what has happened and is going to happen with Jimbo. I know he went to Sloan Kettering Monday and they were doing a bunch of MRIs, etc. It sounded from the WIVB report that he had his jaw taken out and was then at ECMC..........Then, he was home yesterday............But, now Jill posted this:

Are we to assume it might have spread to the brain? I don't know much about cancer, but have lost loved ones to it. I would hate to see Jim get weak and have to succomb to the disease it is. He was the toughest QB of his class, and I hope to remember him that way many years form now!

I would not assume anything yet. So many threads on here on Jimbo, this may have been posted somewhere else and i missed it.This from Peter Kings MMQB with Steve Tasker

This is not a common cold,” Tasker said. “He is loaded for another fight, and he is going to fight it hard. I don’t want to give the impression that this is catastrophic because it’s not. But it’s going to be a tough fight. Jim knows that.”[/color]]

That is encouraging to me. Sounds like it has spread, but to where has not been mentioned AFAIK. Internet medical sites can be ones worst enemy here.

I do find it interesting he was in the hospital for treatment...I think that would indicate a surgical procedure of some sort. Have had three go through chemo, radiation etc last 8 years or so, none of them were in the hospital. I am hoping and choosing to believe that surgery is a good sign!

I searched awhile back, common places for it to spread are the esophagus, other parts of/in the neck and lungs; didn't see anything mention the brain.

From what I can recall...

The search wasn't from webmd, but I found journal articles. Surgery at first usually has like a 95% success rate, for those that do come back; they tend to come back quick; less than a year. They usually go for dramatic resections and removals for surgeries (large sections of neck etc), aggressive radiation and chemo. survival rates weren't great, but were still well in double digits (>5yr - 30-50% IIRC). Some patients went right to palliative care....glad that does not seem to be the case here.

My grandfather passed away from cancer; it started in his lung and he actually beat that, but all it took was 1 cell to go to his brain; it wasn't too long after that...

This doesnt sounds too good....

"The Hall of Fame quarterback is said to be weak and “in bad shape.”

We’ve learned Kelly was scheduled for surgery Wednesday, but doctors wanted to see him immediately"

That story does not sound too good at all...........He looked good in the pics from Friday with Bruce, etc. But, Saturday's pic from Erin with her and him watching the SU game in the hospital, he looked weaker and in pain.

He does look rough here. I was going to make a joke about all Syracuse fans looking that way during the game, but this isn't a joking matter at this point, we all just have to hope for the best, but realize cancer doesn't just take the weak.

Good luck, Jim. As a man, and a father, and a husband. Not as a former player of a team we all like.

It has been updated...

"Dennis DiPaolo, co-owner of Ilio DiPaolo’s restaurant and a close friend of the Kelly family, said, “He is the specialist. I believe he’s like one of the top five in the world to perform the surgery. Needless to say, the community all says, ‘You know what, he’s the main guy, go to him.” So the whole Western New York community from Roswell Park, to ECMC, all the people say, “Jim, whatever you need, we’re here for you.” And needless to say, the rehab’s going to be very difficult.”

Is this something that can be beaten again with surgery?

I mean people talk about rehab and recovery will be hard but that will mean that they would get the cancer right?

One of the things I love about the Kelly family is they are always seen in Bills apparel,

I mean they have their choice of anything to wear and they can afford all the designer clothing yet you still see the family in a Bills t shirt and sweaters.

The love they have for Buffalo and the Bills is amazing.

#prayersforJK as well as prayers for the entire Kelly family
