I know Watkins and Evans get all the hype in this draft, and they are both super talented with all of the "measurables." But I have really liked Jordan Matthews as a potential #1 WR for the Bills, which I believe (assuming/hoping they can re-sign Byrd) is one of 3 glaring holes they need to fill rather high on draft day or in solid FA signings (LB and LG being the other). Matthews will likely fall out of the 1st rd because of speed. But the Bills have plenty of speed at that position already. They need a guy who can make the tough catches, be reliable on 3rd down, have size and be a big red zone target. Matthews is used to being THE option on offense at Vandy. He makes sense to come in as the #1 WR. He did not have a great college QB. He was the man, and he delivered. He just can flat out play the WR position. IMO, this is the kind of WR the Bills need the most. He has played against the best defenses in the the country week in and week out in the SEC for 4 years, is the all-time leading WR in the SEC and a consensus 1st-team All-American. No need to figure out how to use this guy. Just line him up, move the chains, and score.

I like Matthews a lot (maybe more than Evans). I really do not see Watkins slipping to 9 so I guess that I need to start focusing in on some of the other guys. If he is not there at 9 I do not think that WR should be the pick because there are too many other WR in the draft that are similar. If they trade down that's one thing but I do not see that large of a gap between Evans and Benjamin, Robinson, Matthews, Beckham, etc...

Matthews reminds me of a taller Robert Woods. I think EJ needs these fundamentally-sound, crisp route runners with good hands to be successful in his second year as he is still developing. I think there is a reason he favored Woods so much last year - he always ran the right route and they seemed to be on the same page. So helpful for a rookie. Throw in SJ in the slot, Goodwin deep and an upgraded TE. Bye Bye TJ, and I think the passing offense runs a lot more smoothly. Matthews is 6'3", most importantly. The best corners in the NFL seem to come out of the SEC a lot... so why not take an NFL ready WR who has been going up against them already? Plus, he must be pretty bright to graduate from Vandy so that never hurts. Edited by YoloinOhio

I see Matthews currently ranked between the 6th & 8th best WR. With Mike Evans, Marquise Lee, Allen Robinson, Odell Beckham Jr all ahead of him.

Drafttek has the Bills selecting WR Robinson with the 41st pick in the second round. http://www.drafttek.com/2014-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round2.asp

While Matthews is related to Jerry Rice (cousin), I suppose we will need to wait until the combine to get some final grades.

No doubt those are all good QBs and makes sense that would be the case on their rankings but I think "measurables"specifically speed plays a big part. Each of them is very talented. Looking at this team in particular... Evans (and Benjamin) may be too raw to expect to step in as a #1 WR in the NFL as RS sophomores, especially with WR being one of the hardest to make an immediate impact in the league and with a QB starting the season in his 11th overall game. Lee had a bad year which they blamed on injuries and QB play, but rave about his speed. Not sold unless he falls. Robinson is a nice WR but I watched him be shut down by an average at best OSU secondary (who could not cover any halfway decent WRs all year) save for one good play he had in garbage time, and he had a good QB. Honestly do not know much about Beckam and need to do more research, I just think Matthews will not be a combine guy that stands out at all. Wherever he is now, he'll likely be lower after the combine because scouts and experts drool over measurables. I do think he would be the right fit for the Bills. His stats are outstanding, his play is outstanding. Edited by YoloinOhio
