VanCity Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 3 things; LA is the NFLs next move,Toronto doesn't have an NFL stadium, the NBA & MLB teams have been poorly supported. Not factual at all. The Raptors are extremely well supported. Games are most often sold out and average attendance is >97%. MLB had it's time in Toronto and still attracts decent crowds, though based on the number of Blue Jays caps you see in town, you'd think they would be sellouts every game. Toronto is a sports town. It just hasn't figured out if it's an NFL town.
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) http://scratchingpost.thespec.com/2014/03/milton-making-sense-of-mlses-moves.html Within 24 hours last week, Toronto said goodbye to its Buffalo Bills game and hello to its expanded soccer stadium. * * * * * * * * But while the Bills' retreat to Orchard Park might embarrass Toronto non-CFL football interests, and it should, it doesn't kill Toronto's NFL aspirations. It just removes the clutter from them. http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2014/03/07/mlse_city_pushing_to_move_argos_to_bmo_field.html "We are aware that the city is asking for us to enter into a lease with the Argos as part of the deal to renovate BMO," Tim Leiweke, MLSE's CEO, said Friday through a spokesman. "We have had conversations with the Argos over the past few months but we do not currently have a deal in place." The Argos must vacate the Rogers Centre after the 2017 season. MLSE can't carry out its plan to expand city-owned BMO Field, the home of soccer team Toronto FC, without approval from city council. Edited March 14, 2014 by ICanSleepWhenI'mDead
Canadian Bills Fan Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I still cant see it happening. It would end the CFL and there is no way Canada will let that happen CBF
jester43 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I still cant see it happening. It would end the CFL and there is no way Canada will let that happen CBF because why?
Canadian Bills Fan Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 because why? Because Canada will want to do everything possible to keep the CFL from suffering any setbacks CBF
xsoldier54 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Just stop. The Bills are never going to move to Toronto.
Malazan Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 It is pretty clear that Toronto can't support an NFL team. Bills games at Rogers are a joke. With such crappy fan support, why would this be expanded? Some team from Buffalo playing one meaningful game is much different than a franchise in the city.
1st&ten Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The best scenario is to give Toronto an expansion team. Put them in the AFCE with jerseys like the cowboys & let the Bills kick the sh*t out of them for the next 10 years. Put bunk beds in the field house for all the drunk Toronto fans who miss their bus trip home. Let all the Hamilton & southern Ontario fans in the game for half price.
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) http://www.torontosun.com/2014/03/16/mlse-plans-to-spend-big-bucks-to-upgrade-bmo-field "People have to take a deep breath that compromise and partnership is the best way to find resolution;" Leiweke said. "I think we owe it to the city, we owe it to the Argos to find a permanent solution. As to us buying them, on a stand-alone basis, we have no interest in the Argos. But because of the uniqueness of what we have to go through to get the stadium, we are certainly intertwined. The definition of intertwined is forthcoming." The definition of intertwined is forthcoming? WTF does that mean? Edited March 16, 2014 by ICanSleepWhenI'mDead
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) Lots of speculation in this "article" about Canada's announced plan to bid for the 2026 World Cup, including speculation about building an 80,000 seat stadium in Toronto: http://soccerly.com/article/Kubani/the-real-goal-for-toronto-world-cup-2026 What I can't figure out, is whether the artist's conception of that new Toronto stadium shown in the following link is some soccer fan's wet dream, or part of some sort of extremely preliminary draft of something created by the Canadian Soccer Association in hopes of garnering governmental support for a future formal 2026 World Cup bid: http://imgur.com/a/5ZfCR The stadium cost estimates seem ridiculously low, so I'm leaning toward the wet dream theory. The AP has confirmed, however, that the Canadian Soccer Association does indeed plan to bid on the 2026 World Cup, which would apparently require more large stadium capacity than Canada currently has: http://www.bigstory.ap.org/article/canada-plans-bid-host-2026-world-cup So even if the current artist's conception of the 80,000 seat Toronto stadium is a soccer fan's wet dream, there may be some serious future discussion about including a proposed big Toronto stadium in an eventual formal 2026 World Cup bid. Worth watching. Edited March 28, 2014 by ICanSleepWhenI'mDead
xsoldier54 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Just stop. The Bills are never going to move to Toronto. This. So tired of these repeated threads about Toronto. Screw Toronto. They don't want the Bills. Repeat, the Bills will never move to Toronto.
tennesseeboy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 The Bills moving is, I suppose, a very real possibility, but hasn't Toronto pretty much put itself out of the running given its lack of support for its Argonauts and its tepid at best support of the Bills games played there? Buffalo fans are not going to flock across the border to see games. There would have to be a better market than western New York out there to go to and I'm not sure there is one. It will be interesting to watch the various potential buyers machinations over time...but ...call me a homer....I still think Buffalo is a great place to have a team.
BuffaloBill Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 There is absolutely no way a true Canadian would stand for "No Beer after third quarter"...not happening. A true Canadian would simply find a way around the rule..... Eh....
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 About a week old, but belongs in this thread: http://www.wgrz.com/story/sports/nfl/bills/2014/03/26/group-working-to-bring-nfl-to-toronto/6929179/ David Shoalts, a sports columnist with the Globe and Mail, said the wealthy and influential team of Larry Tanenbaum, Tim Leiweke, and Edward Rogers, is working behind the scenes to get a franchise. * * * * Leiweke heads up the new stadium efforts. "I believe he's got at least the outline of what they'd like to do with an NFL stadium," Shoalts said. * * * * The potential Toronto buyers aren't necessarily set on the Bills, Shoalts said. They could be eyeing other possibilities, including others [sic] teams or a possible expansion team.
xsoldier54 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Why is this thread still up and why do people keep speculating about the Bills moving to Toronto? It ain't going to happen. Toronto does not want the Bills and furthermore does not deserve them. It is a hockey town and always will be. Tired of this foolish speculation.

How can this be? I have to believe that the Bills have established Toronto as a part of their market and Goodell has been on the record saying the Bills are a regional franchise. This being the case, there's no way the NFL will allow two teams in the WNY-southern Ontario region. Toronto's bid has to be for the Bills or bust.

May Day 10 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) I actually believe a Toronto team would be potentially good for the Bills A lot of people in Canada outside Toronto hate Toronto, so they may be inclined to go root for the Anti-Toronto team. That is why you see a ton of fans of miscellaneous teams and the Habs in Hamilton-and Hamilton-south Edited April 2, 2014 by May Day 10
