Buftex Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Two episodes in, this show is fantastic so far. Anyone else watching "True Detective" on HBO? Never a big Matthew McCounnghy fan, but he is superb...new found respect. Woody Harrelson is great too...great writing, great dialogue...eerie story....can't wait for more. Disappointed to find that the first season is only 8 episodes....but I will take what I can get with something of this quality. Also, it is an "anthology" series, meaning in season two, it will be different characters and a different story. Not crazy about that format, but I have a lot of faith in HBO television series to get it right.
meazza Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I just finished the Wire and I'm going through Boardwalk now. Eventually I'll watch it but I don't mix tv series

bbb Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm all in. DVR is working right now and I'll be watching later. And, of course, as usual - I agree with everything you said, including your Matthew Mc. thoughts.
Special K Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I'm watching....and yeah, Matt McC's character is awesome. Noticed an appearance from the actor who plays Nucky's brother on Boardwalk....I'm sure we will be seeing more from him in future episodes.
NoSaint Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 really looking forward to the rest of the season
Maury Ballstein Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I just finished the Wire and I'm going through Boardwalk now. Eventually I'll watch it but I don't mix tv series Have you gotten to the Gyp Rosetti part of boardwalk yet? Boardwalk gets better as it goes along IMO. I've got True Detective 1st 3 on DVR. Wanted to hear it was good before taking a look.

Goes faster that way

Maury Ballstein Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Heating up and story is rounding out well with this episode. Coale to Hart in the preview for next week "without me there is no you"
plenzmd1 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 This show has grown on me exponentially the last three weeks. If you are a fan, this is a must read http://io9.com/the-one-literary-reference-you-must-know-to-appreciate-1523076497 and this is a good recap as well http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/true-detective-the-secret-fate-of-all-life-201175
gomper Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Excellent show. The one take, 6 minute ending to ep. 4 was stunning. Last night was another stellar episode. I agree w/ the sentiments regarding MM role. What a great character. The jump-cutting between years can be a disaster in the wrong hands, here it's done masterfully.
cwchze Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 absolutely love this show. Its like a mini movie every week.I do think Marty will be the bad guy in the end. Too many twists and turns. Hbo justs keeps hitting home runs! Excellent recap from the post above! Cant wait till next Sunday
inkman Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Opening song from the handsome family is absolutely haunting

Too many twists and turns. Hbo justs keeps hitting home runs! Excellent recap from the post above! Cant wait till next Sunday Finallly got to see this weeks episode... excellent. I don't know...I hope they don't go that rout, everything going back to Marty. I will say, on a few occasions Marty says something about having your life in order, but needing an outlet to keep things smooth. Gotta think something will happen with his daughter.... her graphic staging of her dolls, and then years later being promiscuous with multiple partners...something is going on there....intimating that the daughter, at a very young age was exposed to some weird stuff... daddy's porn stash perhaps? How it ties back to Coal though...a very tangled web they weave....this is when I hate having to wait each week to see what happens next. Couple of moments I really liked, after Marty clips LeDeux, Coals line about "I am glad to see you committed to something, finally" Also, Marty telling the detectives, the whole time they have been "interrogating" Coale, he has casing them... pretty sophisticated game of cat and mouse... and Rust insists on drinking beer through the whole interview with the detectives..."you can't be held responsible for what you do (say) when you are under the influence" Edited February 18, 2014 by Buftex

Jim in Anchorage Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just got though E1. Got to love the Matt Mc character. In the interrogation room- Matt pulls out a smoke. Cops " no no you can't do that here." Matt "do you want the story or not?" and fires up. Matt "go get me a 6 pack." Cops "what? are you kidding?" Matt " It's after noon on my day off. After noon on my day off I drink." Cops go get beer So he's sitting in a police interrogation room chain smoking and drinking beer. Beer runs out so he pulls out a hip flask. Great character I love this show.
