mattsox Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Congrats Mike Pettine. Well deserved! I wish him best of luck. I hope they do well.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 The Bills just lost the only NFL ready coach on the entire staff. Things just went from not good to really really bad i think. What QB is going to be in the draft in 2015? Bills will be picking first i think.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 @MMehtaNYDN: #Bills LBs coach Jim O'Neil will be Pettine's defensive coordinator in Cleveland if the Bills let him out of his contract
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I'd be depressed if it wasn't just funny. I agree. There is a comedy to this. We have basically one semi-decent coach in 20 years, and he's snapped up almost immediately by pretty much the only team worse than us. It's a dark comedy.
qblax16 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 This really sucks. No way to sugarcoat this one folks. agree
Dorkington Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Good for him. Sucks for us. I fully expect a few steps backwards on the defensive side of the ball next year. Combined with no improvements on offense, should be another entertaining season. Go Bills.

Hughes will disappear much the same way he had prior to joining w/Pettine.

GG Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Really?!? Is the woe is us going to predominate the mood because of one lost DC? Don't worry, Jerry Gray is out there somewhere.
Saint Doug Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 @MMehtaNYDN: #Bills LBs coach Jim O'Neil will be Pettine's defensive coordinator in Cleveland if the Bills let him out of his contract Under zero circumstances should the Bills let him go from his contract. Promote him to DC.
thebandit27 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Under zero circumstances should the Bills let him go from his contract. Promote him to DC. They actually don't have to promote him to get him to say; a simple "he's not being let out of his contract" will do.
Saint Doug Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Really?!? Is the woe is us going to predominate the mood because of one lost DC? Well, considering he was likely the Bills best DC since Wade...places the Bills in a very tough situation. The only upside that could come from this situation is if the Bills called Wade back.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Under zero circumstances should the Bills let him go from his contract. Promote him to DC. The reality is they will let him go, because that's consistent, I think, with normal NFL etiquette.

What QB is going to be in the draft in 2015? Bills will be picking first i think. Sad to say, but I would rather they tank, than have another mediocre season. Especially when maybe the best QB prospect ever will come out, Jameis Winston.

The only upside that could come from this situation is if the Bills called Wade back. Not really...since Wade, the Bills fielded top 5 defenses under all 3 of Gregg Williams, Dick LeBeau, and Jerry Gray.
DC Tom Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Really?!? Is the woe is us going to predominate the mood because of one lost DC? Because of the third lost DC in four years. I consider Wade Phillips one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, ever, and even I'm down at the idea of him coming here, because it would be yet another DC for a squad that's had absolutely no consistency with DCs.
RuntheDamnBall Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Because of the third lost DC in four years. Well, to be fair, Wannstedt was lost even while he was here.
Saint Doug Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 They actually don't have to promote him to get him to say; a simple "he's not being let out of his contract" will do. True, but I think he's probably the most qualified on the staff to replace Pettine. Him or Weaver.
