disco Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I'd say it's a decent possibility. Teams eligible, ranked in order of how outspoken they've been about the show: 1. Chicago Bears. GM Angelo has spoken out against the show before: http://www.lockerpulse.com/News/Bears-on-Hard-Knocks-No-way-says-Angelo-S401118/ 2. New York Giants - Co-owner Mara has in the past said they'll get to do the NYG once he's dead http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/12/giants-will-do-hard-knocks-over-john-maras-dead-body/ 3. Arizona Cardinals - Coach Bruce Arians has said he'd fight any effort to be forced on the show: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/08/arians-would-fight-effort-to-force-hard-knocks-onto-cardinals/ 4. Oakland Raiders - GM Reggie McKenzie on record he does not want HBO there: http://www.silverandblackpride.com/2012/4/11/2941843/oakland-raiders-gm-reggie-mckenzie-tells-hbos-hard-knocks-to-stay-away 5. Pittsburgh Steelers - Tomlin has gone on record multiple times saying he's not interested in the show: http://maximumgrilledsteelers.com/mgsblog/2011/05/why-the-steelers-will-not-be-on-hbos-hard-knocks/ 6. Jacksonville Jaguars - Have actually wanted to do the show before, but current coach Gus Bradley wants no part: http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2013/5/23/4359304/jaguars-hard-knock-2013-hbo-team-interest 7. St. Louis Rams - Fisher has expressed no interest in the show: http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/1747/morning-ram-blings-hard-knock-life The first four teams seem the least interested, with Pittsburgh a close fifth. While I understand the new rules allow them to force the cameras on a team, I assume they're still going to want the team that is most accepting. The Jags seem like a good possibility given their prior interest, but I think it's perhaps the last team on the NFL's list. The Rams don't have much on the record against the show, so that also seems like a decent option. The Bills have not been interested in the past, but I can't find much in the way of public statements against the show from Russ, Marone, or Whaley. So, in comparison to the other 8 in consideration, I'd say it's about as receptive a response to the show as you're going to get.

Look, from a fan's standpoint, it's compelling TV. I get that. Even though it's manufactured TV, there is a human interest element that fans find interesting. But it's the last thing any sane football person would want in the midst of his player-evaluation processes. GO BILLS!!!

For what it's worth... 2001 Baltimore Ravens 10-6 2002 Dallas Cowboys 5-11 2007 Kansas City Chiefs 4-12 2008 Dallas Cowboys 9-7 2009 Cincinnati Bengals 10-6 2010 NY Jets 11-5 2012 Miami Dolphins 7-9 2013 Cincinnati Bengals 11-5 I dont think the show has much influence over the performance of the team. If the team stinks, it's going to stink. If it's good, it'll do well. Not that it means anything, but the combined record of all the hard knocks teams is 67-61
Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I would love this. All the talk about distraction? I think you have to look at the success of teams on this show. It would put eyeballs on Buffalo which isn't a bad thing, it would allow more access for us diehards, and it really is a well done interesting show. It was good with the bengals a team I care nothing about I can't imagine how interesting I would find it if it was done on the team I love. This

Not that it means anything, but the combined record of all the hard knocks teams is 67-61 I appreciate the research, but that's not the point. Teams, read COACHES, do not like their routines interfered with. Nearly every working minute of training camp is scripted. Having camera crews and production staff in tow and inserted in the process effects that and it's no wonder that there is such a sentiment against the show by coaches and GMs. Whether it's a benign distraction or not, it's an unwanted, unwelcomed one. Again, I understand why fans find it interesting. I would caution that it's a not a true representation though. It's edited and manufactured television just like any other "reality" show out there. GO BILLS!!!

GO BILLS!!! Yeah, I totally understand what you were saying. I was just throwing some (admittedly meaningless) numbers out to add to the conversation. And I agree it's not a true representation. After watching last season, the way the Bengals players and coaches came off, I thought they'd be lucky to win 6 games. Sure proved me wrong.
Bills Fan in Beantown Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Maybe putting a little more spotlight on these guys wouldn't be a bad thing and "hold them accountable." Either way, I would certainly be tuned it if they put it on. It would be a lot better than the Bills "Roundup" that I watch on iphone app.
Bufcomments Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Yes...the NFL implemented this after last season...from the linked article, here are the specific rules: "If no team volunteers to be featured in the show, which provides a documentary-style look into a team's training camp, the league will require one team to be on the show if they meet certain parameters: 1. The team has a returning head coach. 2. The team hasn't made the playoffs in the last two seasons. 3. The team hasn't been on the show in the last 10 years." The Bills are one of 8 teams to meet the criterion. " I would like to see the Bills on the show. Then we can see how Marrone can handle it. It would be very interesting for sure.

NoSaint Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Handle what? GO BILLS!!! it. and it would be interesting for sure.
Kipers Hair Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Not sure they want the attention or need the distraction, but I understand the Bills are one of 6 teams in play for Hard Knocks this year - other include Jacksonville, Arizona, Pittsburgh, NY Giants, Chicago, Oakland and St Louis... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24415917/nfl-could-force-eight-teams-to-do-hard-knocks-in-2014
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I put put our chances of landing this at 110% easy.
sodbuster Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Which of those teams would pull in the best ratings though? My bet is Chicago, New York, or Pittsburgh. I can't see a ton of interest in Jacksonville, Buffalo, or St Louis. I put put our chances of landing this at 110% easy. obviously
NoSaint Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Those are the ones that could be forced. All 32 could volunteer.
Realist Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Why not? Is it actually going to hurt our playoff chances?
K D Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I was against this for the longest time, but think of it this way... If we were on Hard Knocks think of the millions of fans it would reach. It would do more for us as a small market team than playing 1 game per year in Toronto could ever do. If it means the end of the Toronto series then sign us up!
PromoTheRobot Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Oh hell, bring it on. Can it be any more of a circus than what we have with our local media? PTR
Canadian Bills Fan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 If the Bills are chosen then us Canadians wont be able to watch it as I dont think any Canadian channel carries the show. CBF
Buftex Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) I would bet on the Steelers. They are a top#2 team as far as national following goes (Cowboys and Steelers have the strongest national following), are not likely to volunteer, and are least likely to be on that list again in the near future. Edited January 21, 2014 by Buftex
Billshank Redemption Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 honestly why not? Brandon has sold his soul for far worse and detrimental to the team PR stunts before why not at least increase our national awareness/branding.
