TigerJ Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 I have recurring popups with the heading of "Solid Peer" on the blue strip. I have run Norton anti-virus, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware and other anti-spyware software and have been unable to root it out. I know it's spyware because often times the popup is in the same general category as the website I'm viewing. I do have a popup blocker running all the time. Any suggestions?
TigerJ Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 I didn't. Maybe one of my kids did. I'll have to check. Is that where it's hiding out?
TigerJ Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 Yup, Morpheus is there. I'll go ahead and delete and see what happens.

Is that where it's hiding out? 212416 It's normally a component of Morpheus. Download "Hijack This" and run it. It'll tell you all the crap you have running on your computer. Check your "add/remove programs" and see what's there.
Dan Gross Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 have you tried using add/remove programs under control panel? It's supposed to be listed there as an uninstallable component...
stevestojan Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 install HiJack this.. it is the best spyware removal tool.. now, when that doesn't work, backup your important stuff and format...

stevestojan Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 RMPL. 212431 no, I was agreeing with you. That's his best bet. But it won't work.... RM.

TigerJ Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 Thanks, everyone. I did go to the control panel and Morpheus (remove only) was there, but I could not delete that for some reason. I already have Hijack this. I hadn't used it, because it also removes my popup blocker. It's hard to identify the programs you don't want to remove. But I did it because you recommended it. I'll just have to reinstall the stuff I want.
Fezmid Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 This might be a good time to point you to my PC Home Security presentation. http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=7560 If you're running Win2k or WinXP, you should set yourself up as the administrator and give your son's account regular user access so he can't install stuff without your permission. I thought that when I tried downloading this it said that I had to register it.

CW 212457 CW, That's a great presentation. Thanks! I can use it to show some of my more slow-witted computer brethren. One tip tho... good passwords use mnemonics... not "pneumatics."
stevestojan Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Don't visit porn and no spyware for j00. 212522 haha... and the winner for most uneducated post of the day goes to!: Kota!

TigerJ Posted January 20, 2005 Author Posted January 20, 2005 I ran Hijack This and haven't seen "Solid Peer" rear its ugly head once. Thanks. I reinstalled a popup blocker to catch the run of the mill popups. The ironic thing is that a good percentage of the ads from Solid Peer were for anti spyware programs and registry cleaners. Yeah, like I'm going to buy from the enemy, right.
